3 Tips for Staying Confident During Cold Season

Are you familiar with that stinging sensation you first encounter when you feel a cold sore coming on? Today I’m excited to share some of my tips for staying confident even when you suffer from a cold sore! The first thing I do is reach for my tube of Abreva® to shorten healing time! The second thing I do is follow a few healthy tips to avoid feeling insecure and self-conscious.

Fall-TrailRather than let an ugly cold sore drive me to bed to hide under a blanket, I instead put my walking or running shoes on and head outdoors. Tip number one is to get some exercise!  There’s nothing like a little fresh air to rejuvenate you and leave you feeling better than before you headed outside.  Whether you choose to get some activity indoors or out, exercise gets your blood pumping and the increased oxygen is always a mood enhancer. I always feel more confident after I get done with a run or vigorous walk. It makes me feel like I can tackle anything!

Fall-Trail-10Tip number two includes getting out and experiencing nature. There is nothing quite as inspirational as the beauty of the earth. No matter what the season, exploring nature boosts your spirits and when you’re feeling uplifted it’s hard to feel a lack of confidence. Communing with nature allows you to be a little introspective, enjoying a quiet moment to reflect on what’s truly important in life. When you consider the mass of the universe and all that’s out there, a cold sore doesn’t seem so significant anymore. But we are human after all, and when we don’t feel well, we can often feel defeated. I find that a moment with Mother Nature starts to cure my ills.

Discovering a Fall TrailTip number three for staying confident involves remembering what’s truly important in life … like family! When I don’t feel all that great about myself I surround myself with people I love and who love me in return.  You gain new perspective when you realize there are those around you who rely on you and need you to remain strong. When I was a single mom, I had some very difficult moments. My children were my inspiration to keep moving forward. Today, my grandchildren provide a similar feeling.

Fall-Trail-13It also helps to remember that my husband loves me no matter what … for better or for worse! When I’m feeling down his reassurance means the world to me. Sometimes all it takes is a few words from him to re-instill my confidence.

Exploring Fall NatureExercising, enjoying nature, and spending time with loved ones always boosts my confidence. But I still reach for Abreva when I feel the dreaded cold sore coming on!  My motto is … why deal with it any longer than you have to?

  1. Hi Jennifer,
I love your decorating blog. It is the only one I follow these days.
Just wanted to share with you that I work for a dentist (in Vancouver, BC Canada) and we are having great success with laser treatments for cold sores. As soon as the patient feels a tingle we get them in. It takes seconds to treat and often does not recurr in the same spot, if it does, it will require a future treatment. If you get them frequently, I would encourage you to talk to you dentist or find one who can help you.
I wish you a very Merry Christmas!
