Aunt Marian’s Tables Get a Makeover

My hubby rescued these cute little tables from his Aunt Marian’s home when she passed away. They’re full of charm but had seen a bit of life and were in need of a fresh scrubbing.

It started with a coat of white paint, which lasted for months. But that seemed too stark.
A little bit of distressing and dark wax provided much needed warmth.
I’d thought about replacing the drawer pulls, but think they’re cute so left them in place.
Sometimes you just need to go with the original.
I liked the distressing, but I saw a dresser at Pink Postcard that had an adorable decoupage treatment using
old book pages that I wanted to try. It became my inspiration for Aunt Marian’s tables.
I pulled pages from an old copy of The Silver Chalice I had on the
bookshelf and then Mod Podged them to the tabletops.
This table displays a map of Rome from the book.
I like the touch of blue that it adds.
I’d only used Mod Podge once before …
… on Christmas gift tags I made this year.
The other table has the title page from the story. It was hard choosing a book,
I wanted it to be a story I’d read and that also had personal meaning.
Luckily, my new 35mm f/1.8 camera lens had just arrived, making it easier to take photos …
… allowing me to capture all the little details.
(I took way too many photos, got carried away testing out the new lens).
I hope Aunt Marian would be pleased with the transformation of her tables.
She’s a religious woman and I think she’d approve of pages from The Silver Chalice.
A special thanks to Denise at Pink Postcard for providing the inspiration for this project.
