Warm Up Your Rooms with the Color Brown

Normally I'm attracted to whites and cool colors when it comes to decorating my home. That all seems to be changing these days. For some reason, I've been strongly attracted to brown, tan, and other neutral tones like gray. Honestly, I think it began when I featured the Randolph Cottage in my Charming Home Series. The color scheme is a great way to warm up your rooms. Here's the living room from the house that started it all. I love the warmth … [Read more...]

Country style means comfortable, livable, pretty, organic, and cozy. Here's a collection of rooms that shows the diversity of decorating with a country … [Read more...]

Beautiful Bedrooms to Dream In

Some of my friends and family members have difficulty sleeping. On occasion, I struggle with sleep too, although lately I haven't had any problems. My philosophy is that if you have pretty space for sleeping, it's easier to drift off. I say this because I think your surroundings can calm your nerves and create a sense of peace. I asked some of my blogging friends if I could share their beautiful bedrooms with you. Kim's blog at Savvy Southern … [Read more...]

Decorating with Neutral Tones

Some people think decorating with neutral tones is safe and reliable, and today's selection of inspiration rooms prove that neutrals are anything but boring. Browns, creams, and plenty of texture create warm, inviting rooms that say, "Come and relax. You're home!" A stone fireplace takes center stage in this living room with a vaulted ceiling. The rich wood floor provides contrast to the beige, slip covered furniture. Soft blue pillows and … [Read more...]

Right as you approach the front door, you can see that Shannon pays careful … [Read more...]

Country Style Decorating

When I was first married, I decorated our little rental home with Asian influences. I loved ginger jars, oriental paintings, and black lacquered furniture. My sister on the other hand, was decorating in country style and the more she talked about it, the more I was drawn to it, too. Country style decorating has evolved over the years (just look at past covers of old Country Living magazines) and encompasses a wide range of influences ... from … [Read more...]

Dining Room Redo: The First Change

After changing my dining room to a sitting room, projects around the house came to a sudden stand still. I caught a wicked viral infection that took forever to go away. The bug took its toll on me both physically and mentally and I'm finally feeling back to my old self. A couple weekends ago we installed a new shelf as the first step in my dining room redo.   The shelf is an $8 piece of wood from Lowe's that I painted white. I used a … [Read more...]
