Spring Porch Dining: Boho Chic Style

When the weather turns warmer, hubby and I enjoy dining al fresco. I like to set a colorful table for outdoor meals and decided a little spring porch dining was in order.  I transformed the front porch into a romantic boho chic dining area with Moroccan-style lanterns and jewel-toned place settings. My Farmhouse Christmas Porch

Are you ready for Christmas with less than a week to go? I feel pretty relaxed about the holidays this year. My decorating was done early, allowing me to relax a bit more. I wasn't going to decorate the porch other than a wreath on the door, but then I got an email from American Farmhouse Style magazine requesting to photograph my Christmas home. My house won't appear in the magazine until next year's Christmas edition. The photographer comes … [Read more...]

My Fall Front Porch: Dining Al Fresco

Summer's flowers are fading and that means it's time to add color to the front porch with fun pumpkins and pillows. Our days here in Illinois are still warm but the evenings are cooler and enjoyable. Hubby and I want to take advantage of the mild weather and enjoy dining al fresco when we can. My fall front porch is arranged to maximize enjoyment outdoors before the temperature gets too nippy. I'm joining a group of bloggers today to share our … [Read more...]

Farmhouse Porch: Summer Living at its Best

Summer on a farmhouse porch. Warm breezes blowing through your hair while birds sing in the trees. Squirrels run across the lawn and scurry up a tree before the family cat catches up. Sipping lemonade while ice cubes tinkle inside against the glass you wonder ... Does it get any better than this? I love summer and my favorite place to enjoy its lazy days is on my farmhouse porch. I've gathered up a collection of front porches from Houzz for you … [Read more...]

Decorating the Christmas Porch: 19 Ideas

Today is Thanksgiving Eve and I'm glad my daughter is hosting dinner this year so I can focus on decking the halls (and porch) for the holidays. It's going to be a busy weekend! My holiday house tour is next Wednesday, December 2nd and I'm scurrying around putting final details on everything. But for now, I'd like to take a little break and share a collection of pretty ideas for decorating a Christmas porch. Here's my holiday porch from last … [Read more...]

Simple Farmhouse Porch

Welcome to another edition of Farmhouse Friday! Today my fellow farmhouse bloggers and I are sharing our farmhouse porches. This year I've made the decision to keep my summer porch simple. In fact, I'm going to simplify the inside of my house too and will be having a yard sale later in August. But for now, here's a peek at my farmhouse porch. Links to the other porches are at the end of the post. My farmhouse porch isn't very big, but I like … [Read more...]

How I Turned My Farmhouse Porch into a Mini Retreat

Summer is my favorite season of the year and I relish sitting on our front porch enjoying the gentle breezes and listening to the birds sing.  We have huge trees surrounding our home so the porch stays fairly cool and pleasant ... unless it reaches a sweltering 90 degrees with buckets of humidity. This week I'm joining a group of other bloggers to bring you the "Elements of Summer" tour and I thought it'd be a perfect time to share how I turned … [Read more...]

A fresh coat of paint and new cushions give her life and color she didn't have before.   This is what she looked like before. … [Read more...]

Who Doesn’t Want a Summer Sleeping Porch?

It's been a little warmer than normal the last couple days but I refuse to turn the air conditioning on this early in the year. So last night while I was sweating in my bed, I was dreaming of how nice it would be to have my very own sleeping porch during the summer months. A screened sleeping porch of course, so I don't have to deal with mosquitoes and creepy crawlers! (Click on photo to be taken to original on Houzz.) Traditional Porch by Edina … [Read more...]

Mellow Yellow: The Color of Choice

I confess ... it was difficult for me to brush yellow paint across the pink clapboards of my circa 1875 historic home. But the pink was looking faded and I felt a jolt of sunshine was needed. It took months to choose trim colors but we eventually settled on Cottage White, a dark shade of green called Blade, and Candle (some shade of red ... not quite sure what you'd call it, exactly). I toyed with lavendar because it's directly opposite yellow on … [Read more...]
