Swedish Designer’s House: Charming Home Tour

Once in a while you get lucky and a popular designer shares their own home. Such was my luck today when I came across the home of Swedish designer Anna Stenberg on Houzz. Scandinavian design is evident throughout the rooms of this cozy cottage. The porch is surrounded by windows that let in plenty of natural light, which is so important during the short gray days of winter. White walls and ceiling bounce the sun around, maximizing the light in … [Read more...]

Swedish Villa: Charming Home Tour

How'd you like to take an overseas trip today to tour a charming Swedish villa?  You'll find white interiors paired with warm wood floors that create a cozy, inviting abode. This darling home is by architect Dreams and Coffee AB. Boho chic lanterns populate the living room with its pretty fireplace and bead board walls. They remind me of the lanterns I recently shared on my front porch.  Black and white decor is becoming more popular, as you see … [Read more...]

Red and White Scandinavian Christmas

I can't pinpoint when I first fell in love with Scandinavian style. It might very well have to do with the fact that I was raised in Geneva, Illinois ... a quaint Midwest town west of Chicago with strong Swedish roots. I remember shopping as a child with my mother at The Gift Box , a Swedish store with those beautiful Dala horses that I always wanted. The Gift Box is still in business today, I'm happy to say. And they still sell Dala horses! … [Read more...]

My Love Affair with Swedish Interiors

It all began with 2 lithograph prints by Swedish painter, Carl Larsson. I purchased them shortly after moving into the first home I ever bought ... it was a Sears kit bungalow home and the prints fit beautifully in my dining room. Ever since, I've been drawn to Swedish interiors and have brought a bit of its influence into my current home. I thought I'd search for photos of Swedish interiors on Houzz and share my passion for this light and … [Read more...]

Beating the Winter Blues with a Little Pink

The months of January through March are always hard for me. I'm not a winter person and I suffer from seasonal affective disorder (SAD). I find myself craving longer days, natural light, and warmth. Thankfully the days are getting longer but it's still cold and snowy here in Illinois. By March I'm ready to be done with Old Man Winter once and for all. To help beat the winter blues I like to bring in lots of fresh flowers and pink ones are always … [Read more...]

Why Can’t My House Look Like This?

Lately I keep looking at decor photos in order to keep myself focused on the look I really want in my home. When I was first married, I loved the Asian look. Then my sis turned me on to American Country style (I know, quite a difference). This led to a more Modern Country style ... and then I met Martha Stewart. Well, I didn't actually "meet" her but you know what I mean. Now I'm leaning toward a softer Farmhouse Cottage look. Switching from one … [Read more...]

Dining Room Updates

One of my 2012 goals is to finish making over the dining room. It's a small cozy room whose walls used to be sage, which I loved, but after ogling over many a Swedish dining room, I decided to lighten it up with a coat of Steamed White from Lowe's. The Windsor chairs were re-painted in Graphite Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. The side chairs now wear Duck Egg Blue from Annie Sloan. You can read about my chair painting project here. Hubby found this … [Read more...]

Divine Dining

My 140-year-old dining room is screaming for a re-do. Well, maybe not screaming ... but it could use a little help. I'm happy with the colors; Martha Stewart's Quaking Aspen green walls paired with white trim, but the table and chairs could use some freshening up. The windows could use some dressing, too. Right now they're graced with a simple, white, roman shade. So I've been perusing some photos for inspiration ... This print of Carl Larsson's … [Read more...]
