Decorating with Yellow

Beautiful yellow!  It’s associated with sunshine and happiness, smiley faces, and Sponge Bob Square Pants. Decorating with yellow brings warmth and energy to any room. Whether you choose to paint the walls yellow or simply add small accessories in the sunshine color, yellow decor can be a lot of fun!

A beautiful yellow couch and other cottage style furnishings from Maine Cottage create a cheery living room. Sometimes bold colors can be overwhelming, but this combination just works.

A softer shade of yellow infuses this traditional living room. Since the hue and intensity is similar, using a variety of patterns looks pretty and sophisticated.

If you’re a bit timid to try your hand at decorating with yellow, add one single item in this sunny hue, like a pair of pillows, flowers, or small accessories.

A lot of people don’t use yellow in their bedroom, but when the room is decorated in soft yellows it’s actually quite peaceful.

I’ve got lots of yellow on the outside of my house. We painted it two years ago and I’m so glad it’s done!

  1. A couple of years ago I realized that the sofas in my family room and living room were both yellow. Hmmm…how did that happen? I love them because I find yellow looks so pretty with my favorite color, blue. It’s like a neutral in that all color combinations look good with yellow.

  2. A pop of yellow looks great in our kitchen, but I tend to decorate our home in neutral colors. Luv the pic decorated in soft colors! 🙂
    Thx

  3. I really enjoy decorating with yellow, too, Jennifer. My personal favorites for decorating with yellow are displaying forsythia branches in spring, yellow buffalo check, gold/yellow walls in kitchen and dining areas, and of course yellow exterior paint colors!! We live in an area of the Northeast that can be very shady in summer and dark and dreary in winter, so injecting rooms with yellows and golds really warms up the space in a lively way. Thanks for your post!

  4. I LOVE yellow! It’s my favorite color. I once had an accent wall painted yellow, but have since gone more neutral in my wall color and add yellow in with accessories. Although, our front and side doors are painted yellow 🙂

  5. I have some pretty yellow walls in my house and they make the rooms bright and cheery. It goes well with my blue and white. Thanks for all this yellow, you have a wonderful line-up.

  6. Yellow can bring so much life to a space, although it is tricky to do well. I really like yellow on exteriors of homes and very pale, almost white yellows for nurseries. Unfortunately I have not perfected the art of implementing the spring color into my home decor, maybe one year.

  7. I have always loved yellow. Your house looks so good in the colors you gave chosen. I’m thinking you should make the back of your house look like the yellow and white one above. In your spare time, of course. When I was in Jr. High I used to look at the Sears catalog and redecorate my bedroom with antique yellow furniture and white accessories. I even so far as calculating the Cost!
