Farmhouse Style Bathroom Ideas

Did I ever tell you the story of how a simple clawfoot tub inspired me to purchase a house? About 16 years ago when I was a single mom with 3 kids, I decided to check out an old farmhouse for sale that was featured in a local newspaper. I really wasn’t in a position to purchase a house, but a girl can dream. It was a cute house but I kept thinking it was out of my reach. But then the realtor opened the door to the farmhouse style bathroom with its cute clawfoot tub and I had to have it! One thing led to another and that house became mine, because that house had not one, but two clawfoot tubs! We’re getting ready to redecorate our upstairs bathroom so I took a look at Houzz for inspiration.

One of the great things about clawfoot tubs is you can paint them. I just adore the color of the bathtub above. It looks great with the bead board and wood floors. Our clawfoot tub on the second floor has a circular shower rod similar to this one, but it needs to be replaced.

Our first floor bathroom has a shelf next to the clawfoot tub like the one below, but the shelf is only on one wall. I like that this shelf wraps around the tub.

Do you notice anything a little unusual about this farmhouse style bathroom? The clawfoot tub is propped up on one end with a small wooden block! I love the rustic ladder with the monogrammed towels.

Would you ever paint your bathtub red?

Or bathe in front of large windows without curtains? You might if you drank that bottle of wine on the window sill!

If you’re gonna bathe in front of windows, you might as well bathe outside, too! This actually looks kind of romantic. If you have a big private yard you could get away with it.

The soft blue in this farmhouse style bathroom is perfect for calming nerves. I like that the trim is painted blue and the walls white, instead of the reverse.

I’m admiring the glass front cabinet in this beautiful bathroom. Our upstairs bathroom just might have room for a cabinet like that.

Another beautiful farmhouse style bathroom. I love the rusticity of the painted planked walls with the elegance of the lace valances.

I don’t know what it is about wood and white that makes my heart beat faster. I love the rug, too.

And finally, a freestanding tub that’s not a clawfoot, but still gives a farmhouse vibe with the ladder used as a towel holder and the jug on the windowsill.

  1. I would like to take a bath in front the large windows….whaoouhhh, the dream !!!!
I wish you a happy new year.

  2. Wow Jennifer,
I’m I love with the blue bathroom! So serene and clean looking. I like the claw foot tub plain white. Can’t wait to see what you do to your upstairs bathroom!

  3. Jennifer,
I was also a single Mom for quite awhile and lived in an apartment. You are so lucky to have found such a wonderful home. My new husband bought me a house in the city but has many cottagy upgrades. I’m so happy and always enjoy your blog for inspiration.
I’m with you on the white and wood.

  4. I love the look of a claw foot tub, even though I am a shower person. Mostly I love the homes that go with a claw foot. If I had to pick a favorite it would be the one with the glass fronted cabinet. Have a Happy and Healthy New Year.

  5. I love, love, love farmhouse bathrooms! My absolute favorite bathroom here was the one with the white walls and blue trim. I pinned that one!
Can’t wait to see what you guys do with your bathroom!
    Beth.

  6. That last photo from Houzz has always been one of my faves. I love the white and wood, too. My all time favorite clawfoot tub is your French fleur-de-lis painted one, though. It’s gorgeous!

  7. I love these pictures! We have a clawfoot tub upstairs, all white with rusty legs (one day we’ll get around to redoing them). I went with aqua colored bathroom walls, a grey ombre curtain, and a shelf on the wall next to it using wrought iron brackets. I also have a pink vanity sink that I just love. Honestly, it’s my favorite room in the whole house and what sold me on the house when I first bought it. We have sloped ceilings so a shower curtain ring doesn’t work for us or else i would’ve had a shower head installed in there.

  8. I love your decor ideas, they are clean , simple and fresh. I am always looking for reasonably priced decor ideas, you have so many. I have 2 labrador retrievers which are hard on traditional area rugs, I like the bamboo rugs you have. I was wondering where you purchased them .
    Your newest fan, Donna

  9. I’d totally paint a bath tub red! At the moment, I have a clawfoot beauty languishing under my deck until we get around to redoing our master bath. It will need repainting, and red is at the top of my list!

  10. Although these are lovely rooms, my dream would be to have a walk in shower…no sill. Maybe I could have both when the time comes! Best wishes in the new year, and with your new project. I can’t wait to see the finished product, but showing us the process might be fun, too!

  11. 2022- oops almost did 2021! I pinned several ideas you show here Jennifer. I am trying to decide on some furniture in our bathroom space and these had some cute ideas for me. The ONLY way I’d do another tub is to do a claw foot or any free standing tub. I hate to clean them and we typically just use a shower so we left the space open…now I need to add some cool furnishings.
That green wood! I agree it’s the comfiest of them all! Now, the open window one I’d feel a bit, well, naked…maybe not my thing unless we had no neighbors or flying drones:0)…just sayin’
