Renovated Hudson Valley House with Historic Details

Hubby and I keep going back and forth. Should we move, or should we add onto the house and do some renovations? The thought of doing either stresses me out a bit. Sharing home tours here on the blog fills me with inspiration on ways to improve our house. For me, it’s a creative process that I enjoy and it leaves me feeling productive. I found new inspiration with today’s tour that features a Hudson Valley house renovated by Crisp Architects. The home is filled with all the details you expect to see in a charming older home.

The kitchen is surprisingly bright and airy. White cabinetry is off-set with warm wood tones found on the kitchen island and flooring, so it’s not cold and clinical. Fun color adds plenty of interest and cute pendant lights finish it all off.

An industrial-style range is perfect for cooking a gourmet meal, which I love to do. Yes, I could definitely live in this Hudson Valley House.

The living room showcases rustic charm with a real stone fireplace. Warm hues pair with cool blues to give this room a cozy and comfortable vibe.

The entryway reveals the history of the home with its architectural detailing and wide plank floors. I’m in love with the trim work on the stair wall and need to find out if hubby can replicate it. Of course, with my newfound power tool skills, maybe I can help.

The living room isn’t shy of architectural details, either. Victorian-style trim graces the windows and fireplace mantel. This room pairs a bit of elegance with its beautiful time-worn features.

Cool blues make a serene statement in the master bedroom, while rich wood furniture adds warmth and depth.

On the other side of the bedroom is this to-die-for fireplace!  I told hubby that if we do add on or renovate, I want a fireplace in our bedroom. I’m certain it won’t be as grand as this one, but a girl can dream!

The master bathroom features a claw foot tub centered under an expansive window. A walk-in shower is also included in this stunning bathroom.

I’m totally smitten by the historic details found in the mudroom/family room. From the wooden beamed ceiling to the farmhouse style doors to the cozy fireplace. It warms my soul. And wait until you see what’s outside that door …

  1. I think this is my favorite in your Charming Home series. It’s such a beautiful blend of old and new. I love the colors in this home. The before and after pictures of the house are unbelievable! What vision those architects had! Thanks for making my Sunday morning coffee so enjoyable!

    1. I love the hardware too. I showed it to my husband and asked him if he could do that to our door. What a nice way to make a plain door look special. Of course all the pretty moulding looks gorgeous too.

  2. What a beautiful house!!! I also love the kitchen and as we want to renovate ours, I really found some inspiration here. Thanks a lot for this post!
    Have a nice Sunday,

  3. Don’t let me burst your bubble, but this is probably a 600,000 renovation!
If you like your location, have lots of memories, add on.
List what you want to accomplish by moving.
List everything you want in your current home that isn’t there. Then scratch off what is a want not a need.
Get down to 5-6 items and scratch for the final 3-4 items you can’t live without.
What remains on the list is what you need to make happen. Don’t end up with a cookie cutter home.
Find a contractor that can add 1-2 features that to YOU stand out in an old home.
Don’t go crazy with the $$$$$, you have to pay for this and also be ready for retirement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. What a beautiful home! But remember that you already have a beautiful farmhouse that holds precious memories of your family. Selling, buying and moving is very costly, as you are probably aware of. I would look at the costs of moving versus the cost of renovations that you would like to do, and then reassess everything. Also would you have the land that you currently have for your horses etc if you moved? You both need to ask yourselves why do we want to move? I wish you luck and will be watching to see what your decision is.

    1. You bring up many good points that need to be considered, Lyn. I think we just need to sit down and make a list of pros and cons on whether to move or add on. Thank you for your helpful suggestions!!

  5. This is one of the prettiest homes I’ve seen in blog land. The colors, the style, the wood, all so inviting. Thanks so much for posting this beautiful and tasteful home.

  6. Such a gorgeous home! It sounds like you and your husband are having those tough discussions about whether to stay in a family home or move. My husband and I nearly wore ourselves out trying to figure things out. Everything is so doggone expensive now. While we were in the middle of trying to figure things out, a little brick house became available near our daughter and her family (grandbabies were a major draw). This little brick house is half the size of our old house, but we put in a nice new kitchen and can’t believe we’re actually enjoying living here. Nan and Lyn have made some very good points. Another consideration for us was to ask what we might need in the next 10-20 yrs, as we’re getting older. It will be fun to follow you and see what you and your husband come up with. Best of luck to you!

  7. Beautiful home! This is the farmhouse style I love, not the ‘new’ farmhouse style that is so monotone and cold. Hey you could always go on the HGTV show “Love it or List it?” lol. Your home is beautiful and you could probably add to it what is lacking for you. Tough decision!

  8. That Apple green and blue bedroom makes me smile. But mostly I love the pool deck chaise cushion colors- orange and blue! Must be UF fans. Go Gators! 🐊 👏

  9. What a transformation! The new addition does not look like an add-on!

My thoughts on moving! I was telling my Doctor about moving and she made suggestions to help improve our home. Make sure if you plan on aging in place that you build in for hand bars in showers and tubs. Also, is the need to have bedrooms on the same living area, just in case one or both can no longer climb stairs. I don’t consider myself old by any means but we did follow the suggestions she provided. Something to consider if it will be your forever home! Good Luck!
