Junque Around the House

Junque is just a fancy way to spell the word junk, and when you think about it … isn’t that exactly what we do with our junk? Fancy it up and make it pretty so it becomes junque? Anywho … I decided to take some practice shots with my new camera lens but felt too lazy to stylize a room. Not that I’m lazy really, I’m simply in the middle of a bathroom makeover which will be a guest post over at Amanda Dale’s Ivy Cottage Blog later this month. So I’m frantically pulling the bathroom together and am happy my daughter married a carpenter because he’s installing the ceramic floor on Monday. All this to say, I didn’t want to stylize a photo shoot … just wanted to take some quick pics around the house. So here’s what I got for today ~

The bustiere is actually a purse. Found it at Kane County Flea Market. When I saw it I squealed aloud
and if you know me, you know I never squeal out loud, at least not in public anyway.
I’ve had this oriental floral oil painting for years.
Bought it from my sis when she was doing those home painting shows.
This is a reproduction Monet. It needs a frame. Any suggestions?
This close-up shows that even the brush work was copied.
It’s not really a painting, it’s a textured print but I can’t remember what they call this process.
Found the handpainted mirror at a barn sale for $10. I love the shape.
Picked this little number up at the local antique store, just 4 blocks from my house.
It’s dangerous living that close to an antique store.
Movin’ on into the kitchen where my hubby installed some beadboard and open shelving for me .
The white mugs were a Christmas gift from my daughter.
Aren’t they white and beautiful?
Perfect size for a caffe latte or a bowl of piping hot homemade soup.
A colorful vase I’ve had so long I don’t remember where it came from.
I adore these salt and pepper shakers … love the colors.
Here’s a close-up photo of a print I have hanging in the living room.
It’s one of my favorites. So that’s my photo session for today.

  1. What glorious fun to see all your awesome
    junque! Not junk at ALL!

I love everything you featured….also stole a glance with appreciation for that jadeite (sp) etched cookie jar in the pic with your new awesome white tea cups……….my mother had a pink depression glass one like that, sure wish we would have kept it. I cannot even begin to tell you how many cookies I baked filling that jar. I digress, sorry.

    Love the post and pics!

    #4 Great post.

Used to be a guy at Kane that sold his stuff by shouting, “It’s ALL junk. And it’s ALL for sale!”

    Happy Sunday!

  3. Thank you for visiting my “baby” blog. You are the first non-family member to follow me. Granted, I have only been blogging for a week, but you made my day! Your blog is beautiful and has so many great ideas.

  4. The new camera looks lke it’s working a treat. Love the way the background is blurry in some shots. I try to do that all the time. But it rarely works for me. Maybe I need a new camera. In fact I know I do.

Looking forward to your bathroom reveal. Sounds like fun.

  5. Stopping in from Debbiedoo’s …

That purse is crazy cute … and I am so so very jealous of your photography skills … and your fancy camera! Someday I’ll have a DSLR!

Also, I’m going to put out some shameful self-promotion here — so sorry I really do hate it when it happens to me — but I’ve joined up with a few new bloggers on an “Imagine the Impossibilities” Challenge that culminates in a multi-blog link party on Jan. 31.

Maybe you could link up that bathroom reveal …

  6. I love the print of the girl! I think we should all marry carpenters or car mechanics,or at least have our daughters LOL they come in so handy! Well if you don’t have a dress form you might be inspired after my party. I hope some of the ladies that have homemade dress forms will link, at least stop by for a gander!
