Little Table on the Side

After decoupaging my kitchen stools, I had a little bit of leftover black toile paper itchin’ to get pasted somewhere useful. I also had just a little bit of script paper leftover from the decoupage desk project. And well, there was my little ho-hum side table that was looking a little forlorn. I found it at the Kane County Flea Market last year for $10 and painted it white, then distressed it. It was okay, but I wasn’t completely satisfied with it. So … out came the trusty Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and Mod Podge duo and this is the result …

Once again, I chose Old Ochre Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and French papers for the top.
I added a postcard graphic from The Graphics Fairy.
The little birdie picks up the color from the script paper.
Pearl S. Buck is a favorite author of mine. I always snag her books when I see them.
I think this decoupage table looks so much better than plain ole white (even though white is pretty).
It just needed a little more ooomph!
What’s the rusty stuff inside the bottles? I honestly don’t know.
Simple lace, wrapped around a rustic bottle.
Doesn’t everyone have one of these tables?
The toile and script papers were applied with Mod Podge and allowed to dry.
A final coat of Mod Podge was brushed atop the paper to seal it.
A final coat of clear wax was rubbed over the Old Ochre paint.
I’m lovin’ old papers these days. French ephemera is the proper term, I think.
The sides seemed a little blah to me so I cut a circle out of the toile for each table leg.
I’ve been thinkin’ of selling some of these decoupage pieces some day. Time will tell.
Hubby’s encouraging me to take the plunge.

  1. Wow Jennifer, it looks amazing, it is good you had left over papers from the stools, and this table match the stools and looks very nice. I like the details of the sides, that circle paper you decoupaged, it is a nice touch. I was already a fan of the stools, now I am even more fan of this table. Beautiful picture as well

  3. I love what you do with your projects! I’m gonna guess that the rusty color in your jars is just that…Rust! Super hard to clean out without using a rust remover like Iron Out.

  4. Gorgeous, I love script & toile in general and you did an amazing job here. It has also given me an idea for my new (bookcase – now plain white) craft storage “cabinet”.
