In Search of the Perfect Kitchen Table

Hubby and I have been casually searching for the perfect kitchen table. There’s nothing really wrong with our current table … I’d just like something that’s not completely painted. Maybe a rustic wood table top with painted legs. I found some inspiration surfing through the pages of Houzz.

This table has a bare looking finish to it, meaning it’s not highly varnished and shiny.

The chunky architectural legs give it a strong presence, and I love the chairs paired with it.

This rustic style table top is the finish I’m looking for.

It has a farmhouse vibe and would provide a great background for photographing food.

How about a mid century modern dinette set? This is a fun look!

Not sure it would go in my house but I do appreciate this style.

I love round kitchen tables! I think because my mother’s kitchen table was round.

Our family of 7 was gathered ’round it every night for dinner. I’m the baby of the family.

A table like this would probably be perfect for my kitchen.

A dark wooden top with distressed, white painted legs. The classic farmhouse look.

Wouldn’t this kitchen table be fun for kids?

Give them a few pieces of chalk before dinner and let them draw.

Then the family can sit down to a decorated table top!

For a while I considered a high top table, but then thought better of it.

It wouldn’t be ideal for small children or aging grandparents.

Here’s the perfect table! It’s large and can host a lot of people and activity.

Even though no people are in this room, you can sense its energy and life.

Finally, another classic farmhouse table with mixed seating.

Hubby and I will continue our search for the perfect kitchen table.

Which one do you like best?

And now, it’s time to get our Thanksgiving table ready for the family!

    1. The last table is beautiful! Good choice. I’m so glad you enjoy my blog! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

  1. Years ago, we purchased the Pottery Barn Harvest table. I didn’t like the white MDF top, so we removed it and replaced it with 4 large wood planks purchased at Home Depot. We then stained and varnished the planks. It still looks great years later. I love how the white base and the wood top look together. I also love that classic farmhouse look.
Hope you have a very happy Thanksgiving.
    Beth.

  2. I really like the farmhouse look, too. We built our retirement home on the ranch that belonged to my husband’s grandparents and then his mom. I inherited a farmhouse table that my grandmother’s grandfather had made from black walnut that he harvested from his land (this had to be mid-1800’s). It is beautiful but the finish is need of attention. I’m not concerned about refinishing since it isn’t the original finish as the table was cut down in size (it still will seat 8) and refinished by my great-aunt in the 60’s, I think I will strip, sand and then do a simple Hemp Oil finish to bring out the beauty of the wood. I would love to paint the legs but I know I would have ancestors spinning in their graves if I did, 🙂

  3. They are all lovely in their own way but I definitely prefer a round table, even tho’ a “table runner” doesn’t look marvellous on it 🙂 Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

  4. When we moved into our home last year, we bought a table for both dining room and kitchen. My dining room table is rustic and I love not worrying about polishing and water marks. Enjoy your week!
