3 Simple Thanksgiving Centerpieces

When I became a vegetarian a few years ago, I knew I would hate giving up turkey on Thanksgiving Day. I’m not a fan of tofurkey because … well, it’s fake.  I typically include a vegetable soup at Thanksgiving, something creamy and a little rich. Since so much time and energy is invested in cooking the meal, I like to keep the table decorations easy and uncomplicated. Today I’ve got 3 simple Thanksgiving centerpieces for you. I’ll choose one of them for my Thanksgiving table this year which I’m sharing here on my blog this Friday. I’m joining several other bloggers who are sharing their inspiration for Thanksgiving Day, so be sure to visit their blogs listed at the end of this post.

Thanksgiving Centerpiece #1

Thanksgiving Centerpiece with Gourds and LeavesI can’t imagine Thanksgiving Day without a few gourds somewhere in the house. It’s easy to group them together in the center of the table for a pretty centerpiece. Elevate the pumpkin to give the centerpiece just a bit of height.

Thanksgiving Centerpiece with Gourds and LeavesWhen I was a kid, I only remember orange pumpkins being available at this time of year. Now we have access to white, gray, and even this peachy colored pumpkin at the local farmer’s markets.

Thanksgiving Centerpiece IdeasIt only took a few minutes to arrange this simple Thanksgiving centerpiece. I like to figure out my centerpiece ahead of time and add it to the table a few days before the holiday. It’s one last thing I have to do the day of the event.

Thanksgiving Centerpiece #2

Centerpiece with Mason Jars and Pine ConesFor the second option, I’m still working with natural elements. This one happened quite by chance. I had a few pine cones lying around and didn’t feel like finding a permanent spot for them, so quickly tucked them into a mason jar that was sitting out. And voila … idea number two was born.

Centerpiece with Mason Jars and Pine ConesI took wide burlap ribbon and ran it down the table to act like a runner. Then it was just a matter of lining up the pine cone-filled mason jars and adding a few elements like leaves and Baby Boos.

Centerpiece with Mason Jars and Pine ConesI don’t have a lot of rules when it comes to decorating, but one tenet I do follow is to never have a centerpiece that’s too tall or too big. First, I don’t like when centerpieces obstruct the view of the people across the table. You can’t have a conversation that way. I also don’t like when there’s no room on the table for serving pieces because the centerpiece hogs all the space.

Thanksgiving Centerpiece #3

Thanksgiving Centerpiece with Candles and GourdsMy final simple centerpiece includes a trio of pretty candles, perfect if you’re serving Thanksgiving dinner a little later in the day. I love the ambiance candles lend to the dining room.

Thanksgiving Centerpiece with Candles and GourdsI like to wrap my pillar candles in pretty scrapbook paper. As the candles burn down, you simply trim the paper. To keep it in place, I wrap a twine bow around the candle and paper. No gluing or taping is required.

Thanksgiving Centerpiece with Candles and GourdsOne word of caution when using candles at the dining table. Think twice about using scented candles. You want guests to enjoy the aroma of the food. For this reason, I like to use unscented candles on the dinner table.

Which centerpiece do you like best?
