How to Create a Summer Coastal Centerpiece

Cool blues are always a refreshing color palette when it comes to summer decorating. As part of the summer edition of Seasons of Home, I’m sharing a very simple tutorial on how you can create a summer coastal centerpiece in just a few minutes. Seasons of Home is a group of bloggers who share seasonal ideas throughout the year. Be sure to visit the other ladies listed at the end of this post for even more summer inspiration. And now, here’s the simple instructions for creating your own summer coastal centerpiece.

Summer Coastal Centerpiece with Candles and SeashellsBlue is one of my favorite colors. It’s peaceful and relaxing. I love using it in my white dining room.

Farmhouse Dining Table with Summer Coastal CenterpieceLet’s deconstruct this summer coastal centerpiece so you can create it yourself.

Filato paper table runner with strip of white burlap ribbonFor starters, I took a stretch of turquoise filato paper and then layered a strip of white burlap ribbon on top. Filato paper is great for tabletops because it’s waterproof.

It’s actually made from plastic not paper. This means the color doesn’t run onto your table if it gets wet. Perfect if you have small children!

Glass Hurricanes to use as candle holders in centerpieceNext come the glass hurricanes. I used 3 that I bought from Hobby Lobby.

They’re priced at $7.99 and was told they go on sale for half price every other week.

I plan to use the hurricanes at Christmas time, too.

DIY Coastal Summer CenterpieceFill the hurricanes with sand and then wedge your candle down into the center.

I added blue and white baker’s twine with an anchor medallion to the candle.

Seashells and Sand in Candle HolderNext comes the fun part of adding seashells on top of the sand.

You can use a bamboo skewer to move them around after you drop them onto the sand.

DIY Summer Coastal CenterpieceSince I had leftover seashells, I sprinkled them on the white burlap ribbon.

To continue the beachy theme, I added a few aqua bottles to my ironstone pitcher display.

How to Create a Summer Coastal CenterpieceIn a short amount of time, you can recreate this easy summer coastal centerpiece.

I hope you’re enjoying your summer. Hard to believe it’s already mid-July!

  1. I love it! The only thing is that I would have to remove all that stuff every time we used the table. Maybe, I could put it all on top of my piano!!??
