Summer Decorating Ideas: Home Tour 2017

Welcome to my short and sweet home tour with a few summer decorating ideas for you!  I’ve made a few simple changes for the season and am joining some blogging friends to bring you a week of decorating inspiration for the season! If you’re here from Paint Me Pink … welcome! (This post contains affiliate links.)

The most work I’ve done for the summer season is seen outside. I shared my farmhouse entry and porch this past Monday. The front porch is my favorite place in the house during the warmer days. The best summer decorating idea for this space is to hang flowering baskets.

In the family room, I finally swapped out the burlap swags for white curtain panels. The room needed something lighter for summer and truth be told, our kitties were having too much fun getting their claws in the burlap. Hubby hung a new light fixture in here too. You might remember I originally intended for this light to go in the sitting room.

A simple box of faux lavender adorns my new coffee table. The rest of the family room is cool blues and white. I love how a simple idea like swapping out window treatments creates a lighter, airier look.

No new summer decorating ideas for my sitting room since this room was recently redone, although I did swap out the gray-patterned curtains in here for the same white panels as seen in the family room. I did change the mantel decor in this room, which I’ll be sharing next week.

Since there’s so much greenery outside right now, I brought a little of that hue into the kitchen (including the dish soap!). The tablecloth is leftover material from making vintage pillow cases.

Light green hydrangeas and fern fronds were plucked from the garden to decorate. That’s one of my favorite summer decorating ideas – bringing the outdoors in. It’s so economical.

I’m quite proud of my boxwood topiary. It’s the longest I’ve kept one alive!

A couple of fern fronds decorate the kitchen windowsill.

Upstairs, one of the bedrooms wears blue and white, which I think is the perfect, cool color scheme for summer. A couple of wooden starfish accompany a driftwood sailboat to create the nautical theme.

Another bedroom wears my lightweight wedding ring quilt for the summer.

Under this bed are bins full of bedding that I swap out for the seasons. I’m done buying bedding for a while now and will simply rotate bedding according to the season.

Vintage aqua bottles add the cool color of the sea. They’ll house zinnias from the garden soon.

I’m still working on that “new” dining room that I’ll reveal once it’s done. I’m only making simple changes though. I’m committed to working with a smaller budget when it comes to home decor.

Do you have any decorating projects for the summer?  Or do you wait until fall?

  1. I’ve commented enough that you know I love your home and what you’ve done with it. It’s cozy, warm and delightful in its decor. I am SO glad to see you changed out the burlap window coverings in your family room. To me, the change is major and the softness of the white panels lifts the spirit of the entire room. Also love your upstairs bedrooms – we don’t see them enough – and they are charming too. Also, with regard to the old fashioned bedside table like you have in your blue/white bedroom, I saw two of them (original brown finish) in a consignment shop last week and it brought back memories of my grandmother’s house. She had the full bedroom set – bed, double sided vanity with mirror, vanity stool and side tables. I wonder what ever happened to all of it. Can’t wait to see your “new” dining room.

  2. Love your house and the changes, looks very summery fresh. Your home is a great place to live.

  3. What is that wonderful color on the walls of the bedroom with the wedding ring quilt? It’s kind of a light aqua?

  4. Are you able to tell me where the beige geo rug in living room
came from. ..town and country living room
