10 Examples of Painted Trim

One of the fastest and easiest ways to give your home a fresh new look is with paint.  Normally we think of painting our walls, but what about painting your trim a different color?  My daughter Bridget is in the process of painting the trim in her house and it looks really nice. I’ll have to get over there once our shelter-in-place is listed to take pictures for you.

Do you like blue kitchen cabinets? In our first home, which was a Sears kit home, I painted the cabinet beneath our farmhouse sink a similar shade of blue. The edges of the sink were curved and I had the cabinet underneath the sink custom made with rounded edges.

  1. Hi Jennifer,
Love the pictures; my favourite one is the nursery. I am going to paint our bedroom soon and the colours in this picture are the same as I have chosen with the exception I was going to paint the walls with colour and the trim with the white paint. After having seen this picture I may switch them around. Thank you for sharing these. Hope you are comfortable at home. We are experiencing a bit of heat wave these days. Going to the beach today. Take care.

  2. I love painted trim! And unexpected color on ceilings too. But then, I love wood trim too. Depends on the room. These are excellent examples, the dining room built in reminds me of my first nursery room, you know, when we had to wait for the baby to be born to know its sex?? And I would take that launxry room in a heartbeat. There was a sears kit home in my previous neighborhood that had undergone some beautiful transformations,,I always wanted to ask for a tour:). Sounds like you had yours fixed up cute,

  3. Thanks so much for this post! I’ve been looking for something cheap but appropriate for remodeling and improving rooms in my apartment. You’re absolutely right–painted trim is gorgeous, yet subtle. Would you suggest using a standard paint? Or is there a special kind of substance you prefer? Thanks for sharing!

  4. It is amazing how much of a difference some trim can make for a home. It really can help add a lot to the look and design of your house. In these pictures I am especially a fan of the light green trim. That is definitely unique and different from anything that I have seen.

  5. Love the colors! And that nursery with the white balls bouncing about on the ceiling is ever so much fun!

  6. I have white walls in the great and dining rooms with a warm light tan woodwork.
I can now use white or natural back grounds in things like drapes, slip covers.
I don’t like white and naturals mixed, but this makes it ok.

  7. The trim color in the nursery with the white balls on the ceiling is the same color I just recently have incorporated in my master (mistress?) bedroom. I have white painted trim, but was able to find sheer draperies, a comforter with various shades of this color, and cushions matching the draperies for my wicker chair in that pale, light turquoise/blue color. It is the most relaxing and soothing color I have ever used and I love it. I have light gray walls and dark floors and this pale color, so far, is my favorite bedroom color ever. Thanks for posting all the trim ideas. I’m sure many of your followers, including me, were able to see some of these in our own homes.

  8. I love the stairway and that pretty blue color on the trim. It does make the difference, thanks Jennifer.

  9. I never thought about painted trims, but you made me crave them. All of these look so gorgeous! That mint green from the second picture is simply stunning. Love it!

  10. I need to know that pink color on the door!
We want a pink door, but not light or too dark, this looks perfect!
