11 Pretty Sunrooms to Love

My first adult home was a bungalow style Sears kit house. You know, one of those homes you buy out of a catalog and all the supplies are shipped to your lot. That darling little house had an adorable sun room at the front. The row of windows faced south and in the winter all the sunlight was captured and would heat up the room. We’d leave the doors open in that sunroom to help heat the house. And in the summer, it was shaded from the large leafy maple trees out front. Sometimes I drive by that charming house and remember sitting in that sunroom. Since I’m feeling nostalgic about it, I’ve decided to share a few pretty sunrooms for you to fall in love with! (Note: the winner of the Lived-In Style book is announced at the end of this post.)

LOVE this sunroom!  First, that architectural ceiling! It’s just gorgeous. The pretty chandelier draws your eye up toward it. And just below, diamond patterned windows top expansive windows that hug the room. Underfoot, a rustic wood floor is softened by a simple rug. Cushy, curvy furniture lends a bit of elegance. If I lived in this house, this room would be all mine.

Traditional Sunroom

If you enjoy rustic decor, this example of pretty sunrooms is sure to tug at your heart strings. What a great place to curl up with a good book and enjoy the scenery outside. It’s secluded and cozy!

This simple sunny room has charming cottage appeal. The wire bench is darling and reminds me of Victorian days gone by. On the wall is a painted Swedish bench facing the windows to drink in the view.

Does it get any prettier than this?  The gardener in me is green with envy looking at the entrance to this sunroom that’s used as a greenhouse. The arched doorway is amazing and hints at what’s inside.

It goes without saying that if you have a lakeside home, you have to have sunroom to enjoy this bit of heaven on earth.

Of course, the same can be said for an oceanfront home as well!

Who says a sunroom has to be filled with love seats and chairs? This one houses a kitchen. I would love to cook in this kitchen with all that fabulous light. My kitchen has a trio of windows over the kitchen sink and I love that I have such a great view of our yard when I’m cooking.

Contemporary Sunroom

This grand room should be called a conservatory!  Remember the murder mystery game “Clue”?  That was the first I had ever heard of a conservatory.  “Colonel Mustard did it in the Conservatory with the candlestick.” Did you ever play that game?

Traditional Sunroom

I love this space! Of all the pretty sunrooms here, this one has a glass ceiling in addition to glass walls. What an uplifting space to host a dinner party. I’d string little white lights inside and out to create a magical evening. And I’d make sure that gorgeous chandie has a dimmer switch for evenings. During the day, you’d almost feel like you were at a botanical garden.

The last of our pretty sunrooms to love is this classic room with dark wood floors and a white vaulted ceiling. Who needs a living room when you have a gorgeous sunroom like this to relax in?

Which sunroom do you like best?

I’m happy to announce that the winner of the Lived-In Style book is Merrill who wrote:

“I love this house and every detail about it. Whenever I think I have too many vintage finds on display in my home, a house like this says to me “No you don’t”. I love all my treasures and enjoy seeing other home owner’s who feel the same way. I could easily move into this house. Thank you for sharing it.”

Congratulations, Merrill! Check your inbox with the email announcing your win!

  1. Talk about nostalgia for me too! The pretty white one by Cambrige Architects reminds me of my mother. When I was growing up the house we moved to had a little “samarium” that was more of a lean-to with a hot tub in it and my father converted it into a sunroom that looked just like the white one. He even put in a cute little pot belly gas stove for the winter. My mother lived in that room! It was her favorite place. I knew that is where I would always find her every morning having coffee as the sun came up and shown in the windows.

  2. The first sun room is the one for me. Although the eclectic rock/greenhouse was certainly beckoning me to come in. It’s funny you should show these today as my husband and I are sitting in our “really a 3 season room but we put in a wood burning stove”room thinking about what color to paint it. Hurry spring!

  3. I would love to have one , thanks for allowing me to dream, if only for just a few minutes!

  4. I love them all. Each has their own special feature that made them so unique. It is something I always wanted if I owned a house and a proper front porch. Thank you for the dream.

  5. My favorite sunroom is the first one followed by the garden room with the arched doorway. I enjoyed all of them. Thanks for sharing.

  6. I think I want a sunroom rather than my screened-in porch. A sunroom wouldn’t get dirty as my screened-in porch does in the winter.

  7. Love these. I have ALWAYS wanted a greenhouse dining room like that with a chandelier! I could have that AND a conservatory most happily! At least the whole south side of our house has big windows and doors. I have also always joked that it would be great to flood the golf course here so we would have a lake with mountain views. No one else seems to think so though.😆

  8. I really like these! I tried to find more on that one with the brick archway and limestone steps, but couldn’t. That’s probably my favorite although I like the “traditional” as well.
