For some, an earth tone kitchen might sound a bit ho-hum. Add a playful patterned floor to lend unique interest to the room.

Who can resist a natural stone or brick wall? The texture immediately adds organic charm in a kitchen. The owners used colors in the stone as inspiration for the room’s color scheme.

Rather than white cabinets, consider a light taupe instead. Paired with wood floors and a wood kitchen island, the look is classic and timeless. Note how the window inserts are painted a darker color than the frames. A two-toned window always creates dimension in a room.

An earth tone kitchen can still display a dominant color of white. Natural wood elements create a rustic and organic vibe while charming school pendant lights infuse a touch of whimsy.

  1. Pretty kitchens! I have wanted white cabinets forever. But my husband does NOT agree with that idea, loves the oak look. Since he’s really cooperative with all of my other interior design ideas, I’ve given up the fight and have a lot of earth tones in mine. It’s one of those times when compromise is necessary! Nice to see these other beautiful kitchens, some with oak cabinets!

    1. Hi Judy!
Oak cabinets are making a comeback so maybe your desire for white ones will start to fade. At least your hubby is cooperative with your other decorating decisions! 🙂

  2. I love an earth toned kitchen with wood accents, but still prefer white cabinets – at least on the perimeter. The photo with the natural brick wall was one of my favorites, as was the very first photo. My problem with wood cabinets is that over time they have a tendency to look orange, especially those made of oak. The plant filled kitchen is amazing, but I would not be able to maintain a mass of them. One or two in the kitchen I can keep alive, but more than that and it just becomes sad and pitiful.

  3. I LOVE the earthtones!! I have taupe cabinets, brown quartz countertops, brown brick backsplash, wood floors & a color that was called Earth Brown on my walls. You can have the white, I will take color any day. And I would love to have oak cabinets, but the previous owner painted the cabinets yellow. Ewwww!

  4. Lots of great choices. i have some white cabinets and some earth tone glass front cabinets and have never had the urge to change them. I cut a picture out of a magazine and told my kitchen contractor that was what i wanted. I do wish it were a little bigger but no where to go without adding on to the house. Thanks Jennifer, i love looking at kitchens.

    1. I am having a decorating dilemma. I have a large kitchen with lots of cabinets. Currently they are stained wood. Can’t decide if I should have them refinished or paint them a neutral type that would go with my counters and walls. My appliances are white. Any thoughts from you or your readers?? Been in this house for about 6yrs and 2020 is the year I have to do something!

      1. Go for the paint! So many nice colors are in style now. To be fair…after a lifetime I just don’t like wood tone cabinets, especially oak, and after hating ours for 20 years we finally gutted the kitchen and put in a pretty off white. If you have oak please note that they need a coat of something to prime out the grain or it will show through and not look so good painted.

  5. I have older oak cabinets that are in great shape. I think the white and other painted kitchens are very pretty. I have painted cabinets in my laundry room and powder room, but I honestly love my wood cabinets in my kitchen. They are warm and cozy. I have white trim and light wall paint, so the space remains light. I like cottage and vintage styles, and I could make that work with my older cabinets.
https://www.houzz.com/photo/110720042-my-pics-work-in-progress I like individual kitchens that reflect the individual style of the family that lives in the home. I like seeing many different types of kitchens done with creativity – whether with painted or stained cabinets. Thank you for showing this variety of very pretty kitchens!

  6. I could happily live with these colors for a very long time. My favorite is the kitchen with the stone walls. Just love it.
