12 Spring Decorating Ideas: Making Plans

We had a few “warm” days here and by warm I mean the upper 40s. Whenever we get a warm spell in the middle of winter it means one thing is sure to happen. Spring fever hits and I start brainstorming on spring decorating ideas. I looked through former projects for inspiration and pulled together a few of my favorites.

Spring wouldn’t be spring without tulips. I become a little obsessed with these beauties this time of year. Wouldn’t you love to visit Holland and stroll through the tulips fields? I’d pluck them up and make a pretty tulip arrangement and fill every room in the house with them!

Here’s my dining room during the spring of 2015. The walls are Steam White by Valspar which casts a slight blue hue. The blue and white tablecloth is a vintage find. This spring dining room is now my sitting room and you’ll see an update to it tomorrow during the cozy living series.

Here’s the same dining room decorated for spring in 2016. I brought a little of the outdoors inside.

By spring of 2017, the dining room was turned into a sitting room. I added a second bird poster to the wall for my spring home tour that year.

Now my dining room is in the former living room. I recently shared a pink and gray table setting in the “new” dining room. If you’re a fan of pink like me, you might enjoy my recent post on decorating with pink.

A spring decorating staple in my house is flowers. Fresh or faux, I like a mix of both. Pink is always a favorite simply because I adore pink flowers. A white ironstone pitcher gets filled with tulips and carnations.

Roses in shades of pink adorn my Easter mantel from a few years ago. Wait until after Valentine’s Day to purchase roses and you’ll enjoy lower prices on them!

A couple years ago I made a spring floral chandelier. This was a super easy project!

It’s fun to make your own spring bulb arrangement, too. Last Saturday I shared a round-up of spring bulb gardens.

Yellow is also pretty for spring and I love to use this sunny color in my farmhouse kitchen.

Color is fun to play around with and spring is a great season for doing so. We’re all tired of gray skies and short days and are ready for fresh explosion of color. I enjoyed making this playful valance from colorful vintage hankies in my kitchen window.

My porch is usually the last space I decorate for spring – mainly because I wait for it to warm up a bit. This year I ordered a fun “wreath” for the front door. I can’t wait to reveal it soon. Last year I had a white floral wreath on the front door of my spring porch.

I think I’ll keep things simple this spring since we’ve got a few projects going on. But one thing is certain – flowers will definitely make an appearance! It’ll put me in the mood for planning the outdoor gardens.

Stop by tomorrow for the February installment of our Cozy Living Series!!

  1. Everything looks so refreshing and making me long for spring.I just love your bird and eggs posters. Will you share where
    found them?

  2. Thank you for sharing the beautiful flowers. It was a sub zero wind chill here overnight and although the sun is shining this morning, instead of shining on Spring flowers, it’s shining on muddy little footprints and dog hair. Spring cannot come soon enough to happily sweep winter away and begin to shine and polish things once again. I suppose this is what makes us so appreciative of warmer weather and I’m anxious to welcome it back. Your post full of Springtime certainly took me away for a few minutes.

    1. Hi Pat!

Your weather sounds like our weather right now! Sometimes I enjoy winter – like when it’s over 30 degrees and there’s fresh snow on the ground. As long as it’s not too much snow though! 🙂 I’m glad the spring pictures took you away for a bit!

  3. In Okla. we actually had a day close to 70, but back to cold. I can’t hardly wait till Spring and thanks so much for all these wonderful spring pictures. At least if you can’t get out and work in your yard you can go buy some pretty flowers to enjoy. I am anxious to see what you have done, love your home.

  4. These beautiful pictures make me really wish for warmer weather! I look forward to your next post featuring your sitting room. As soon as I get the cookbook project off the dining room table, I’m going to get out my mom’s pink Depression glass bowl and candlesticks and make a fun centerpiece. With a few changes as the months click by, it could stay for a while. Today is cold but the sun is shining brightly, so that helps!

    1. Hi Donna!
Your centerpiece idea sounds so pretty! I love pink depression glass. My sister had a collection and she gave it to my daughter who was thrilled to receive it. It’s sunny here, too. Usually when it’s sunny in winter here, it unfortunately means the temperature is colder.

  5. I remember your posts of these. They are all lovely. The spring chandelier was assume. Wo updated do again or no5
