A Cedar Shake House and Other Glorious Friday Finds

Did you have a nice Thanksgiving yesterday? Hubby and I had a quiet day at the house. We’re celebrating Thanksgiving with the family on Saturday. I don’t mind celebrating a few days later. It allows my children a chance to enjoy the day at their in-laws without having to rush to two dinners. And I have to admit, I love the peace of the day.

Today I’m excited to share this week’s Friday Finds because there’s lots of good stuff. I also found a couple new blogs that I didn’t know about, so that’s always fun.

I want to start today’s treasures with this beautiful, European she shed by fellow blogger – Deb at Seeking Lavender Lane. And let me just say a few words about Deb. Seven years ago I featured her home tour. While she had good decorating skills back then, her style has evolved quite a bit and I’m in awe of what she does. Check out her blog – Seeking Lavender Lane – and see for yourself. She’s a beautiful girl with a beautiful blog.

Next up is an amazing cedar shake home over at Lissy Parker. I just discovered her blog this week. The tour is of the exterior of the North Carolina home and the surrounding property. Trust me – you’ll be enamored with this charmer.

I know you’ve probably had your fill of Thanksgiving foods, like sweet potatoes. But I stumbled across this recipe for roasted sweet potato stacks and thought, “what a unique way to serve sweet potatoes.” I love a baked sweet potato but have never been a fan of the sweet potato dish with marshmallows on top. This recipe might become a staple in my menu line-up.

Take advantage of Black Friday by shopping the Schoolhouse sale. EVERYTHING on the site is 20% off. I love the style of the items they offer, but they tend to be a little pricey. So now is the time to buy. In addition to their online store, they also provide an inspirational decorating blog.

Do you love the English cottage look? You know, that charming little stone house in the movie, Holiday where Cameron Diaz’ character falls in love with Jude Law’s, and Kate Winslet’s character falls in love with Jack Black’s. See how to get the English cottage look at Nadine Stay.

This year I have dried orange slices hanging on my Christmas tree (which I’ll be sharing soon). If you’d like to try drying oranges for holiday decor, see the instructions at Cherry Street Blossoms. I’ll be drying more today.

Enjoy your Friday – hopefully you have today off from work and can relax after the busy-ness of Thanksgiving.

  1. THAT HOME on Lissy Parker’s blog!
    Beyond words.
Our clan is gathering today- Friday. Same reason… allow kids to enjoy Thanksgiving with the other families. Hubby and I also enjoyed a relaxing day and evening with my brother and sister-in-love and our traditional “Turkey Sammies” (our nickname for piled high turkey, dressing, sliver sliced jellied cranberry sauce and gravy sandwiches)! Enjoy your upcoming Thanksgiving and weekend.

  2. All fun and interesting but I’m particularly appreciative of the orange slice drying link. I tried to do this last year and thought the oranges had to be totally dried out from their time in the oven. It took forever. Now I see that at least some of the drying takes place after they are removed from the oven. I’ll give it another go this year.

  3. Thank you Jennifer these were wonderful finds and yes, I have had a lazy day. I actually was invited to my dil house to eat. My house isn’t as grand as that cedar shake house but I do have them on each end of my house and around my front porch. Have fun with your children Saturday.
