Bluebells in Our Farmhouse Kitchen

kitchen ideas, Uncategorized May 5, 2013

One of my favorite decorating tricks is to bring fresh flowers into our farmhouse kitchen, dining room, and every other room under our metal roof! Last week the daffodils were in bloom and I brought a big bouquet of their sunshine inside. This week the flowerbeds are filled with bunches of blue … Virginia Bluebells, that is.

Farmhouse Kitchen TableThis beautiful-hued perennial is quite prolific, spreading itself throughout the garden a bit more each year.  Excited to see the bluebells in full bloom, I grabbed my enamel pitcher, rushed outside and stuffed it with these lazy-headed bluebells.

Virginia BluebellsDon’t they look just perfect on our breakfast table?

Farmhouse Kitchen NookWith the sun streaming in the window of our farmhouse kitchen, the Virginia Bluebells seem to perk their droopy heads up just a bit. This is such a lovely flower in the garden, spreading itself and creating a sea of blue.

Farmhouse Kitchen SideboardI tucked a few Bluebells in white bottles and set them on our kitchen sideboard.

Farmhouse Kitchen ShelvingThis is the first open shelf we added to our farmhouse kitchen after installing the white bead board. We recently installed more open kitchen shelves in here and I really like the look as opposed to closed cabinets.

Bluebells in BottlesThe Bluebells are tucked inside makeshift vases that were created from IBC pop bottles. Hubby drinks the cream soda … I no longer drink pop. I painted them Old White using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.

Virginia BluebellsThe bee bottle was first sponge painted with white paint and then I transferred the bee graphic onto it.

Virginia BluebellsAren’t they just the loveliest shade of blue? You can see each flower bud has a pinkish hue before it fully opens.

White Coffee MugsI love all the white in our farmhouse kitchen. A lot of people ask if it’s hard to keep clean, but it really isn’t. We used white kitchen cupboard paint on the shelves and bead board and it wipes clean quite easily.

White coffee mugsI’m not constantly cleaning, contrary to popular belief … thanks to this great, sturdy paint by Dutch Boy.

Country Farmhouse KitchenThe Virginia Bluebells provide a pop of blue in our farmhouse kitchen, keeping it fresh looking. Soon the bluebells will fade and that means the lilacs will be coming inside. I much prefer to use garden flowers in the home instead of store bought. They’re cheaper, too!

Bluebells and White IronstoneAlong with the Virginia Bluebells, Grape Hyacinths are also making their appearance in the garden.  I’ll put these pretty little things in a miniature white ironstone pitcher when I’m done taking photos.

Grape HyacinthIt’s so nice to have garden flowers in our farmhouse kitchen again. It’s been a long winter and I tire of roses and carnations after awhile. I long for the tulips, lilacs, hydrangeas, cone flowers, and more. Each month brings new floral joy to our home.

How about you? How does your garden grow?

Such a beautiful blue color, Jennifer! I love the way it looks against the white in your kitchen. Love the grape hyacinths, too. I’ll have to remember to look for some of those bulbs {along with the tulips and daffodils} to put in this Fall.

The flowers are just beautiful…the blue against the white background. I could look at your kitchen all day, it is simply gorgeous! I have white open shelves at the lakehouse and I rearrange everything so much they don’t have a chance to get dusty!

Love, love, love your bluebells! This reminds me that I planted some a few years ago, but I don’t remember seeing them bloom. I’ll have to go back to my design to see where they are (hopefully they’re still there!). Yours are fantastic!
