Painted Furniture in the Bathroom

When it comes to decorating a room, one thing always leads to another. Always. On a whim a couple weekends ago, I painted my downstairs claw foot bathtub. Once I did that, I no longer liked the color of the cabinets in the room so that led to the next task ... painted furniture. Isn't that the way it always goes? Now I'm thinking the flooring needs an update (I think I'll settle for new rugs for now). After painting my tub Provence blue, my gray … [Read more...]

Bookcase Makeover

Today we just finished painting the outside of our house and you'd think I'd be sick and tired of painting, but I decided to paint my little bookcase in the family room. I have a big change coming soon to this room but more on that in a future post. For now, I'll just share my bookcase makeover. Here's the "after" ... I wanted my bookcase to have a little bit more drama than before.   Here she is before her makeover. Not bad ... but not … [Read more...]

Rummage Sale Wooden Tote Gets a Makeover

Our little town has a huge festival the weekend before school starts. The whole town along with their friends and families swoop down to attend a 2-hour parade on Friday night. On Saturdays, there are oodles of rummage and yard sales. The local Catholic church has the biggest selection and that's where I found my rummage sale wooden tote to make over. Here's what my rummage sale wooden tote looks like after its makeover. It now wears a coat of … [Read more...]

Roadside Rescue Game Table

Hubby and I have officially started painting the outside of our house. And let me tell ya, it's a lot of work ... lots of scraping and some boards need to be replaced. Not to mention we have a lot of trim to paint in a few different colors. But before all that got started, I gave a roadside rescue game table a makeover. Here she is ... my trashy little table-turned-treasure sitting all pretty on my front porch.   Hubby found this … [Read more...]

The Phenomenon of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint

For many years I've been a huge fan of painted furniture. I love that you can transform a junky old piece into a thing of beauty with just a few coats of paint. I do not, however, enjoy painting furniture ... that is until I discovered Annie Sloan Chalk Paint®. The paint adheres easily to all surfaces (I painted my claw foot tub with it) and doesn't require a lot of prep work. Score! I no longer use regular old house paint for furniture pieces. … [Read more...]

Christmas Votive Holders on the Cheap

This Christmas season I've got a few decorating projects lined up (like who doesn't, right?). Hopefully I'll get to all of them but I'm not makin' any promises. I'll just do the best I can. First up are these little Christmas votive holders. Simple and sweet. At this time of year, I like anything that's simple. Here's what I started with. Six little candle holders at 49 cents each from Goodwill. I suppose they look cute enough as is, but they … [Read more...]

Fixin’ a Decorating Boo-Boo

So I thought I was done with my dining room. But then I submitted a couple photos to Hometalk as part of a Favorite Room thing they were doing and they posted my dining room pic (along with other people's favorite rooms) on their Facebook page and that's when the fun began! Some people said nice things, a couple other people said my Windsor chairs looked ridiculously gigantic compared to the other chairs at the table. After I brushed off my … [Read more...]

Dry Sink Full O’ Fall

When I bought the new buffet, it replaced the dry sink which meant the dry sink needed to move. The dry sink took up residence where the bookshelf used to be. The bookshelf didn't belong in the dining room anyway. The dry sink is painted white using regular latex paint. I think I'm going to paint it Old White using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. This way, it will match the dining table and buffet. The mirror used to be gold. I painted it today in … [Read more...]

Love at First Sight: My New Buffet

I wasn't expecting it. Really, I wasn't. A recent trip to Carter's Cottage for Annie Sloan Chalk Paint resulted in taking home more than a simple can of paint. You can't just go into Carter's, grab some paint and go. No, you have to look around and admire all the new eye candy that the ladies put together. That's when I saw this little number.I did a double-take. Now mind you, there is oodles of gorgeous furniture like this in the … [Read more...]
