Big Red Barn at Leroy Oakes Forest Preserve

Leroy Oakes is a beautiful forest preserve in Kane County with big red barns and historical buildings. In the early morning it's peaceful and serene. A bike and running trail winds its way through the idyllic property and this is the location where we start our long marathon training run every Saturday. As you drive down the winding road into Leroy Oakes Forest Preserve, this big red barn greets you as you reach the parking area. Every year, the … [Read more...]

Livin’ the Country Life

My blog is dedicated to both Town and Country living, but it dawned on me I haven't posted anything country as of late ... other than country decorating. So this post is dedicated to country scenes not too far from my house. I love my old home in the center of town, but I'd love to live on a farmette, too. Like this "little" farmette. I could easily live here with that big, front sun porch. It even has a wrap around balcony on the second … [Read more...]

Planning a Country Wedding

My oldest daughter Stephanie gets married next June. Midwestern Prairie Life

So welcome to part two of my little visit to Garfield Farm on the Illinois prairie. (You can … [Read more...]

Down on the Farm: Garfield Farm

Town and Country Living is a blog about living life where the western 'burbs of Chicago give way to the farm fields of Illinois. I love both the city and the country and want to write about all of it ... urban and rural scenery, decorating with special finds from nearby boutiques, cooking veggies grown in the garden, special places to visit, and more. This past Saturday we took a little trip to Garfield Farm, which is just three miles from my … [Read more...]

Burlap and Lace Wedding

Introducing my new blog with a tribute to my daughter Bridget, who was married to Zac on October 8th, 2011. She wanted a burlap and lace wedding on a country farm and after months of searching, she found just the right venue that blended rustic charm with lots of rural beauty. I just love the cowboy boots with the short bridesmaid dresses. The bride is wearing cowboy boots, too!   We used quite a bit of burlap for her DIY wedding. Here, … [Read more...]
