Vintage Santa Ribbon: Christmas Tree Decorating

When it comes to Christmas trees, I'm kind of like Kevin in "Home Alone." Holiday trees are magical and beautiful. As a kid, I couldn't wait to get home from school to turn the tree lights on and just bask in the glow. A few months before Christmas I start dreaming about how to decorate my tree. It's the starting point for my holiday decorating. This year I was struggling ... until I spotted a pretty vintage Santa ribbon.  This ribbon … [Read more...]

My Home Appearing in New Book “Creatively Christmas”

I've been holding onto a little secret for many many months and now I'm finally able to share it with all of you! My home is appearing in the new book "Creatively Christmas ~ Inspired Yuletide Decor" by Jennifer Rizzo!! I'll never forget the day last year when I opened an email from Jennifer telling me about her new book deal and asking if she could photograph my house to appear in its holiday pages. Didn't take me long to respond with an … [Read more...]

Reflections of Christmas ~ Vintage Style

Now that my home is cleaned and the halls are properly decked with boughs of holly and other finery, I thought I'd have a little fun taking photos of my vintage mirrors reflecting the twinkly lights of my Christmas tree. I thoroughly enjoyed capturing reflections of Christmas on a quiet, snowy afternoon. My shabby little mirror offers reflections of Christmas ... simple and sweet.   A quick change of the camera's focal point provides … [Read more...]

The Trimming of the Tree

When most people talk about trimming their Christmas tree, they mean festooning it with ornaments and lights. But when we trimmed our tree, we actually cut off about half its branches. And the point of doing that was to create space for plenty of ornaments. For over a decade, we've had a fake tree to avoid dealing with dried, fallen needles on the floor. But this year I remembered a Christmas tree from 2011 that inspired me to go "au … [Read more...]

More Christmas in the Kitchen

Are you ready for Christmas? All my shopping is done but I still need to wrap presents. For me, the joy of Christmas consists mostly of the festivities leading up to Christmas Day. Decorating, cooking, shopping for others ... and of course, remembering the blessed birth of Jesus. I thought I was done decorating but I added a few more touches of Christmas in the kitchen. I made a wreath for the wall and tied together some greens for the back … [Read more...]

Christmas in the Family Room

As we get closer to Christmas, I've been showing more details of each room that's been decorated. Today I'm sharing the family room. I'm saving the Christmas tree in the living room for last, although I showed one pic of it in my Holiday Home Tour post. Anywho ... on to the family room. Sticking with my "Keep It Simple Stupid" theme this year, I didn't get too fussy with the decorating in here. In fact, I used a couple kitties to decorate. My … [Read more...]

My Holiday Home Tour

Normally I would wait until closer to Christmas to reveal all of the house decked out for the holidays, but I wanted to get everything ready for Jennifer Rizzo's Holiday Home tour party on Monday, December 10th. This post is an overview of my holiday decor, with more detailed photos coming soon. Needless to say, I've been busy scurrying around pulling everything together. Without further adieu, here's a sneak peek of Christmas 2012 at Town and … [Read more...]

Christmas Boxwood Wreaths in the Kitchen

The past few weeks I've been a bit frustrated. I haven't been able to find the Christmas decor I want when shopping at local stores. First and foremost on my list are boxwood wreaths. Nobody's got 'em. And I don't want big, honkin' ones either. They need to be sweet and petite to fit my built-in kitchen hutch. This weekend was the monthly flea market and although I didn't find boxwood wreaths, I did find some boxwood ... a bunch for six … [Read more...]

Christmas Votive Holders on the Cheap

This Christmas season I've got a few decorating projects lined up (like who doesn't, right?). Hopefully I'll get to all of them but I'm not makin' any promises. I'll just do the best I can. First up are these little Christmas votive holders. Simple and sweet. At this time of year, I like anything that's simple. Here's what I started with. Six little candle holders at 49 cents each from Goodwill. I suppose they look cute enough as is, but they … [Read more...]

Creating a Christmas Theme

I told myself I wasn't going to post about Christmas until after Thanksgiving but I just can't help myself. Christmas comes and goes so fast and what I enjoy most about Christmas is the weeks leading up to the big day. In fact, sometimes the big day is a little anticlimactic after all the frenzied planning. So maybe it will help to start planning a little earlier. And part of that planning involves choosing a theme for decorations. This year I'm … [Read more...]

Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree

"Rockin' around the Christmas tree, at the Christmas party hop." Thank you, Brenda Lee, for making this holiday song such a classic. Tis the season for sharing gifts, food, and most importantly ... love and joy. Unfortunately, Christmas can be stressful and even sad for many. I think it's important not to get too freaked out about making everything perfect. Instead, have some fun by letting down your hair and rockin' around your Christmas tree. … [Read more...]

Christmas Baubles and Beads: Part One

The sun graced our home early this morning so I quick snatched the camera to take advantage of the light streaming through the windows. Snapping photos like a wild woman, I took too many for just one blog post, so this is part one of sharing some of the ornaments on my tree. Shiny orbs always catch my eye, and I've got plenty of 'em. And of course, pink and green is a favorite combo. My personal Christmas tree philosophy is that you can … [Read more...]
