My Farmhouse Porch is Anxious for Spring

A light snow is falling today and my soul yearns for spring.  I miss the smell of fresh dirt and newly mowed lawns. I want to see green leaves sprouting on the trees and colorful pops of flowers in the garden. Hubby and I have deemed this summer as the season of working on the outside of the house. We plan to paint the exterior and add some new landscaping ... maybe install a new patio too. But the weather has to warm up first. Yesterday hovered … [Read more...]

Decorating with Topiaries and Houseplants

Houseplants are easy to decorate with and when you mix in topiaries with their architectural presence, you can really pack a decorating punch in any room. Lately I've found myself drawn to greenery ... some of my recent finds are more money than I'd like to spend and others are a bargain. Surprisingly, I don't necessarily like the more expensive ones better, which is typically the case. This topiary circle in a mossy clay pot was a recent find … [Read more...]

My Experience Being Published in an Italian Decor Magazine

Less than 2 months ago I received an email from Annarita Triarico, an Italian journalist working for Lotus Publishing. She wanted to feature my home in one of their magazines, "Gli Speciali di Casa Chic."  At first I thought it was a joke, but I looked at their publishing site and realized it was a legitimate request. Unfortunately, this magazine is not for sale in the United States, but I'll receive several hard copies of my own. As you'll see … [Read more...]

Review of 2012 Home Decor Goals

About a year ago I started blogging in hopes it would motivate me to turn my home from a hodge podge mess to a more cohesive style. Problem is, I like too many styles and needed to fine tune because I'm not that good at pulling together eclectic. So I looked at Pinterest and several blogs for inspiration. I started to notice a theme in what I was most drawn to ... soft colors in a bright and airy setting with farmhouse-cottage style furnishings. … [Read more...]

Christmas in the Family Room

As we get closer to Christmas, I've been showing more details of each room that's been decorated. Today I'm sharing the family room. I'm saving the Christmas tree in the living room for last, although I showed one pic of it in my Holiday Home Tour post. Anywho ... on to the family room. Sticking with my "Keep It Simple Stupid" theme this year, I didn't get too fussy with the decorating in here. In fact, I used a couple kitties to decorate. My … [Read more...]

The Creatively Made Home

Who doesn't want a creatively made home? Well, now that I've asked that question I can think of a few friends who don't care what their home looks like. It's simply not their priority and that's perfectly fine with me. We all march to the beat of our own drum, after all. But I'm one of those who wants a creative home and I'm soooo excited to participate in the upcoming Creatively Made Home series that's being offered by a few very creative … [Read more...]

Skinny Armoire Makeover

About a year ago I scored an old skinny armoire for $40. It's a great piece of furniture because it doesn't take up much space. Although I loved the dark wood, it felt a little ho-hum to me. After all the fun I had painting and decoupaging my desk (check it out here), I decided to apply the same technique to my skinny armoire, using a blue script paper from Michael' The desk is in a different room so I didn't think this would be decoupage … [Read more...]

Spring Decor in the Bedroom

About a year ago I stepped into Amazing Grace, our local antiques store. The shop had been in business for a few years before I ever stepped across their threshold (don't ask why it took so long ... I don't have an answer). Since that first visit, I've made several purchases ... the prices are so reasonable! My fave purchase from Amazing Grace Antiques is my white bedroom dresser. This little DREAM banner came in the mail yesterday.I … [Read more...]

Random Touches of Spring Decor

Don't you just love all the spring decor blog posts? You can tell people are just itchin' to get outside and dirty their fingernail in the rich, warm soil. I started blogging just before Christmas and I remember thinking, "When Christmas is over, what will everyone blog about?" Well, now I'm finding out. Lots of whites and pastels to soothe the soul until summer arrives. My little yellow bench in the kitchen lends a spring feel to the … [Read more...]

Why Can’t My House Look Like This?

Lately I keep looking at decor photos in order to keep myself focused on the look I really want in my home. When I was first married, I loved the Asian look. Then my sis turned me on to American Country style (I know, quite a difference). This led to a more Modern Country style ... and then I met Martha Stewart. Well, I didn't actually "meet" her but you know what I mean. Now I'm leaning toward a softer Farmhouse Cottage look. Switching from one … [Read more...]

Gettin’ My Holiday Groove On

Can I just say something before sharing the latest round of holiday shots? I'm worn out! I've never been exposed to so much talent and inspiration until I discovered blogland ... and while I want to try all the latest projects I see ... I just can't keep up! I had plans for embroidered ornaments, burlap stockings, moss Christmas trees and more. But it's just not gonna happen, seeing that Christmas is less than a week away. But you know what? I'm … [Read more...]
