Charming Craftsman Style Curb Appeal

I’ll bet more of you are going for walks now that the weather is warming up. Do you like to walk around pretty neighborhoods while admiring the daffodils and tulips? I know I do. One of my favorite housing styles I like to see on my walks is the charming craftsman style that originated right here in the U.S.

Classic bungalows have such great curb appeal and are considered an offshoot of the British Arts and Crafts style. Arts and crafts came into style after the extravagance of ornate Victorian homes.

Craftsman style grew in popularity in large part to their wide offering in catalogs. My first home was a Sears Kit catalog home. You might live in one yourself!

A pair of second-story bay windows creates a lot of curb appeal on this dark blue beauty of a home.

  1. Craftsman homes are so wonderfully detailed. My grandmother worked for Sears many years ago. Anything they made was excellent she’d say.
I would remove the trees in front of the cute white in Auroro Illinois and plant some pretty flowers, boxwoods or even azaleas. Love the blue with the green door in Crystal Lake. Eye candy for sure.

  2. I’m new to your blog and love it! I grew up in Aurora ( graduated from West High) so am very familiar with a lot of the homes you have featured. A lot has changed since I moved away….mostly those Victorian beauties on your recent walking tour. They experienced a renaissance as they were pretty run down years ago. My cousin still lives in Crystal Lake and they have some of the cutest Craftsman Bungalows ever.

  3. Yes I love the craftsman style, they all seem to have a little something different about each one. Thanks I enjoyed the tour of this lovely old style.

  4. I love the craftsman style especially the ones with the front porch. On the DIY channel I watch Restored with Brett and he does mostly restoring craftsman style homes in California. I like how he goes in depth right down to the type of tile that surrounds the fireplaces etc. The wood work on these homes is so spectacular.
