A simple coat of paint or a minor architectural embellishment can pack a punch for making your home stand out on the block. Here’s 14 charming front door ideas to get your wheels spinning.

Purple? Yes, purple! Who else has a purple door on your block? Likely no one. This is such a playful hue and we recently talked about decorating with lavender this year. Might as well add a splash of this pretty hue to the exterior of your home, too.

I know some people don’t like a lot of windows on the front door due to the lack of privacy it creates, but I’ve always been a huge fan of front door windows – whether it’s a pair of sidelights or on the door itself.

When in doubt, go red! Red is a classic front door color and looks good with almost any color siding. It’s also a great color for drawing attention to the front door when your entryway might be a bit obscured by plants or trees.

  1. I need to paint mine but i am having a problem trying to decide on what color to choose, thanks for all these ideas. I love your door and front porch.

  2. Pretty pictures. Our door has glass surrounding it and it takes a bit of privacy away the light is amazing. One of my pups loves it too. He sits and watches things go by. UPS may not enjoy it, 😃

  3. I love front doors with glass sidelights. I don’t have a door like that, but I wish I did. For those extremely concerned about privacy, there are ways to treat the glass so that it’s not such an issue. I’m trying to decide whether to paint my front door black or red this Spring. My house is a light gray ranch with grayish-taupe colored brick 1/4 of the way up with black shutters on the front windows and black garage lights. At least I’ve boiled it down to just two colors. I love several of the doors in your post, but for the style of my house, and for the neighborhood, I think I need to stay reasonably conservative. Yes, I believe red is conservative for a front door. 🙂

  4. Magnificently painted doors! Wish I could find out where to get the exactly the same colour and texture of the RED door! It is beautiful! Thank you in advance for your help…

  5. Thank you Jennifer, for the updated door color suggestions. I like the stronger colors, and the neutral colors too, far better than the pastel, because I feel they make a stronger, more put together statement about the house in general. ..I think the pastel door colors are fun for get-away cottages, such as by a lake,

  6. Pretty doors. Still have to paint mine. I have the same door as the one shown with shutters but I have the glass sidelights with a raindrop? privacy glass. Gives light and privacy and I love the look of it. I love your exterior color scheme. So pretty.
