Christmas Garland Options: Deck the Halls

Have you started decorating for the upcoming holiday season? I started last week and am sticking with my vow to go simple this year. One thing I don’t plan to skimp on too much is greenery and natural elements. I love Christmas garland and it’s an easy décor option. You just drape it and you’re done. You don’t have to make room for new vignettes or think about how you want to group items. It’s fuss-free and adds so much festive cheer. Today I’m sharing some of my favorite garland looks from year’s past along with sources on where to find a variety of garlands. (This post contains affiliate links – see my privacy policy.)

I think I used two strands of garland on my pastoral cow painting in my sitting room above. I didn’t use anything to hang it. I just tucked pieces of it behind the picture to get it to stay in place.

Christmas garland doesn’t have to be made of evergreens. One year I made a wood slice garland and paired it with a velvety strand of faux greenery. In that post I share how to make one – it’s really pretty easy and doesn’t take much time.

On occasion, I mix two different types of garland for a thicker and more textured look. On my mantel below, I paired a more expensive piece with a cheaper one.

A glittery pine cone garland with candy cane ribbon is one of my favorite Christmas crafts I’ve ever made. Gather pine cones from the forest or your yard and brush them with glue. Then sprinkle glitter all over. I used a hot glue gun to attach the pine cones to the ribbon. It’s a little messy with the glitter, but it’s so economical.

A pom pom garland is another festive garland you can make. I shared a pom pom tutorial a few years ago. It’s a little more time consuming but yarn isn’t expensive so it’s a nice holiday option.

And now for Christmas garland options you can buy. I love this faux cedar garland from Terrain. It drapes so naturally

A felted Merry Christmas garland from West Elm is a whimsical touch to any mantel. You can also use this on your tree.

Use garland to hang your Christmas cards. This berry garland from Pottery Barn creates a festive way to display cards – you can hang it vertically or horizontally.

Here’s a garland option for those of you who like something that lights up. It’s the starry garland from Terrain. So festive!! Use it alone or layer it with evergreen garland.

  1. Lover of garland here, these ideas are cute and creative. Your pinecone and ribbon garland is very appealing. Lol. I’m also a total sucker for all that glitters and sparkles.

  2. Thank you for these great ideas!! A couple of the crafty ones I could do with my grandson, he would love it! I’m going to be watching for more decorating ideas for the holidays. What I see in the couple of pictures, your house looks lovely. Have a good day. Hugs,

  3. Garlands are getting prettier and better each year. So many different ones to choose from, thanks for these they are all good choices.

  4. I like all of them. I have an obsession with evergreens lol. So, I usually cut off branches from things in my yard and the woods to use as a garland on my mantle and add items to it depending on my mood. However, I still have old 50’s and 60’s plastic garlands from my Mother and I use them also. I love the vintage Christmas items and still use them.

  5. Lots of nice choices, without a lot of fuss!
I would LOVE to know about the dark background rug. PERFECT for my bedroom I am in process of redoing. Any information is appreciated. Thank you!
