Christmas in the Family Room

As we get closer to Christmas, I’ve been showing more details of each room that’s been decorated. Today I’m sharing the family room. I’m saving the Christmas tree in the living room for last, although I showed one pic of it in my Holiday Home Tour post. Anywho … on to the family room.

Sticking with my “Keep It Simple Stupid” theme this year, I didn’t get too fussy with the decorating in here.
In fact, I used a couple kitties to decorate. My first e-book is going to be “Decorating with Cats.”
(I say that tongue-in-cheek … but ya never know!)
A live Norfolk pine on the left gets wrapped in an old flour sack,
while a faux tree on the right gets stuffed in an ironstone pitcher.
A chair that’s seen better days is covered in a quilt until we get new furniture.
Hanging from the window are wooden stars from a local shop.
When I saw the porcelain stars at another store, I got the idea to pair them up for the holiday.
Greenery, candles, and vintage glass ornaments are all that’s needed for a Christmas vignette.
The Farm pillow was made by Stacey at A Sort of Fairytale. Check out her cute blog!
In the summer I use this little crate to hold wildflowers.
The craft cabinet gets into the Christmas spirit with poinsettias, greens and candles.
I love all colors of poinsettias but creamy white ones are my fave.
Rosemary at Villabarnes made the little First Noel sack.
As soon as I saw it I knew I wanted to stuff it with greenery and hang it up.
And Jill at Sew a Fine Seam made these fabric star ornaments.
I strung them together with a strip of burlap to hang down the side of the cabinet.
I love having things in my home that were created by other bloggers.
Here’s my favorite comfy chair. The bookcase normally sits in the living room,
but every year it gets moved to make way for the Christmas tree.
This year I decided to take out any books that weren’t red or green,
and replaced their space with small touches of Christmas.
This is my first and only bottle brush tree. After the holidays, I hope to purchase more when they’re on sale.
I might try finding cheap-o green ones before then and try my hand at bleaching them.
Tonight we’ll be watching Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer in this room.
It’s my favorite holiday classic to watch, followed closely by The Elf and Home Alone.
What are your favorite Christmas movies?

  1. Your family room is very pretty and comfy looking, but best of all it’s very festive looking. You have such a great style, I love it.
    Hugs, Cindy

  2. Your living room is beautiful, Jenny! Ah, the Christmas movies… 🙂 I love ”It’s a Wonderful Life”. This week I saw ”Family Stone” for the first time – it’s a good movie.

  3. So calm but fun! Beautiful decor!!!

Fav. movies- well, I love the ones you mentioned. We watched Home Alone. I want to watch Elf. My favorite all time is It’s a Wonderful Life. We have watched 3 versions of A Christmas Carol, White Christmas, A Holiday Affair, Home Alone, While You Were Sleeping… Hmmm. Any other ideas? Oh, and some of those ABC family kinds. Love The Christmas Card, but with Hallmark, what’s not to love!

Have a very Merry Christmas! Thank you for sharing your home!

    Blessings, Heather

  4. Fabulous and so very charming, Jennifer! I haven’t been able to find any bottle brush trees, so I’m not holding out much hope for after Christmas….lol! I want to try that bleaching technique, too. I like your idea of “Decorating With Cats!” We only have one, but there is no way she would have left those lovely Christmas ornies just sitting on that table!

Our favorite Christmas movies are “A Christmas Story” — got to love Ralphie. The other has to be Chevy Chase in Christmas Vacation. We get together with our family early on Christmas Eve because of little ones, so we plan to watch Christmas Vacay after they leave. Will probably add popcorn, too!

Hope you have a very Merry Christmas!
