Christmas Table Setting in Blue, Silver, and Gold

Christmas is coming … quickly! Seems it gets here faster every year. I’m hosting Christmas at my house this year so I’ve been playing around with a Christmas table setting or too. I found some gorgeous plates at the flea market last month with the intent of using them for Christmas dinner. My first idea for a holiday tablescape involves a little bit of blue and silver.  I’m joining a group of blogging friends today to share our Christmas tablescapes with you (links to their table settings are at the end of the post).

Christmas Table Setting in Blue, Gold, and SilverI’m trying to simplify my Christmas decor this year so I’ve set an unfussy table in my dining room. I like to play around with tablescapes before finalizing the table design. Especially when it’s the Christmas holiday. I like to make the day as memorable as possible for guests.

Christmas Table SettingThe first layer of my Christmas table setting is a light blue tablecloth with a glittery snowflake design woven into it. I found it at a new thrift store in the area for just under $3. The light blue color reminds me of the shading on drifts of snow in the winter.

Christmas Ornaments CenterpieceThe center piece is a rough hewn wooden bowl filled with silver and gold Christmas ornaments. I first tried grouping them a white platter, but it looked too pristine. So I tried something with contrast and settled on the wooden bowl. I find sometimes opposites work better together when creating interest in a room.

Christmas Table Setting in Blue and SilverThe white rectangle plates were my flea market find last month. The vendor had a table set with them and I loved their large size and shape. As I picked one up to check the price, another shopper stepped up and said, “Are you buying these?” I hadn’t made a decision yet but didn’t want to lose the chance to own them so blurted out “Yes!  Why?  Do you want them too?”

Luckily she said no, but congratulated me on a great find. And also luckily … the set of 8 was just $32. I added my mother’s China dessert plates on top, accompanied with a silver feather and gold flatware by Colin Cowie.

Christmas Table Setting in Blue and SilverGlittery star ornaments serve as napkin rings and can go home with each person to trim their tree.

Gold Dipped Drinking Glass from World MarketFestive gold stemless glasses were found at World Market. When I was at the cash register checking out, the woman behind me was oohing and aahing over the glasses. I told her where to find them in the store and she ran off to get her own set. I placed glittery snowflake ornaments under each glass to serve as coasters.

Christmas Dining RoomMy hutch in the background is filled with part of my white ironstone collection. I’m still playing around with it to get it arranged the way I want for Christmas. Sometimes I have to walk by it for a couple of days before I figure out what’s missing.

Christmas Dining RoomI’ve been attracted to silver and gold this Christmas, and you’ll see more of it tomorrow when I reveal my Christmas home tour as part of Jennifer Rizzo’s Holiday Housewalk. I can’t wait and I hope you’ll come back to see it!

  1. Nice find on those plates. I could enter a 12 step program for plate hoarders. I just love them! My mom got me some gold flatware a few years ago because I couldn’t stop thinking about it. 🙂 I love all the elements you so elegantly combined! Beautiful friend!
