Decorating with Pastels

cottage style, farmhouse style, home decor March 6, 2015

Spring is the season of pastels … soft color, soft sunlight, and the wakening of the world from its slumber. The faint hues of spring prepare us for the riotous smorgasboard of colors in the summer. I love spring and everything about it! Even the gentle rains that freshen the earth. An annual springtime ritual of mine is decorating with pastels throughout the home. Here’s a few examples from Houzz that are giving me inspiration for the next couple months.

Eclectic Kitchen by Amsterdam Media & Bloggers Holly Marder

A pretty, Cath Kidston inspired kitchen is filled with fun pastel colors! A dainty flowered wallpaper pairs with a soft blue door and refrigerator. White trim adds a clean, crisp touch.

Decorating with pastels lends itself nicely to cottage style living.

The color scheme is simpler and quieter.

Pastel painted cabinets are a great way to break up white space in the kitchen, without having to go too bold.

How about trying something fun … like painting stair risers different shades of pastel paint?

Eclectic Porch by Other Metro Media & Bloggers Adrienne DeRosa

Playful pastels decorate a country style porch.

It’s a happy place to visit with friends and neighbors!

Pastels don’t have to be sweet and charming. This living room proves that decorating with pastels can carry an air of elegance and sophistication.

This living room also shows the elegance of pastels.

A pairing of soft lavender and pale blue creates a classy coastal style vibe.

Soft yellow in this monochromatic bedroom creates a perfectly restful environment.

Eclectic Entry

Normally we don’t think of painting our front door in a pretty pastel, but why not?

This coral colored door is stunning against the dark gray exterior.

Eclectic Bathroom by Amsterdam Media & Bloggers Holly Marder

A peaceful blue washes the walls of this vintage bathroom.

Note that the light fixture picks up the red coloring in the flooring below.

Yellow always looks great in the kitchen and it sure is sweet on the walls of this farmhouse.

I just adore the sink and cupboards in this kitchen, and the yellow sets it all off!

Finally, one more kitchen with pastel washed cabinets. An oriental rug underfoot lends an air of sophistication. I hope you enjoyed this roundup of examples for decorating with pastels.

Those stairs and that gorgeous front door are so fun! And painting a furniture piece is a subtle way of introducing pastels into an interior and (for obvious reasons) one of my favorites.
