See Inside a Delightful Contemporary Farmhouse Featured in Magnolia Journal

Today’s a good day because we’re going to see inside a delightful contemporary farmhouse by Kelsey Leigh Design Co. This unique home was featured in the 2020 fall issue of Magnolia Journal and it’s easy to see why. The home is filled with impeccable details and gorgeous style. I’m especially in love with the dark green kitchen.

The exterior mixes rich wood tones with dark gray paint on batten siding. The ample porch provides plenty of seating space for enjoying the great outdoors.

An enclosed side patio enjoys a cozy fireplace and plenty of texture as seen in the wood sofa, rattan coffee table, cozy rug, and basket style overhead light.

The living room is unique in that the pair of couches aren’t matching. The mismatched look works in the space due to the neutral tones. You can see the enclosed patio through the window on the right side of the room.

On to the gorgeous kitchen with its dark green cabinetry, dark counter top, marbled back splash, and brushed gold fixtures. I love that the glass-front cabinets are lined with wood inside. A small ledge above the back splash creates space for small items – either for decorative or functional pieces.

Light wood covers the floor and wraps the kitchen island. A pair of oriental rugs provides a bit of cushion and pattern underfoot.

I like that the designer chose white appliances as opposed to stainless steel. I’m not much of a stainless steel fan. My mother said it shows fingerprints too easily and that’s always stuck in my head. If you’re wondering what color paint is on the kitchen cabinets, it’s a 50/50 mix of Pewter and Ripe Olive, both by Sherwin Williams.

Step back behind the bar stools and you can see how big the kitchen is. You can easily have more than one cook in here and not get in each other’s way. I love the contrast of light and dark in this space.

The dining room in today’s contemporary farmhouse has more of a modern vibe. The dining chairs say “country style” while the table and buffet are more Scandinavian in nature. Add the modern light fixture  and mirror and you’ve got an appealing, eclectic look.

Pale mint green paint covers the cabinetry in the beautiful, combination laundry room and mud room. The earthy color of the tiled floor adds just the right touch of warmth.

The powder room features a fun and colorful patterned floor, which seems to be trending. I’m seeing more bathrooms with daring floor surfaces. In a smaller space like this, it’s not at all overwhelming. I need to find that large oval mirror for my downstairs bathroom.

If I had a home office, I’d want it to look just like this one. The big leather chair pops against the dark walls, as does the capiz-shelled chandelier against the dark ceiling. The colors of the modern artwork are truly eye-catching.

The master bedroom in today’s contemporary farmhouse is soft and neutral, with an upholstered headboard loveseat, and a beamed, vaulted ceiling. I love the addition of a gauze and metal light fixture overhead.

A vintage desk takes up residence next to bunk beds in a kids or guest room. Each bed has its own light for nighttime reading.

The bedrooms have area rugs over carpeting, which adds the interest of layers to the space. Another unique pendant light illuminates the room when the sun goes down. Besides colorful, patterned bathroom floors, another trend I’m noticing is treating lighting as artwork.
