Dinner is Served

For the most part, our dining room has been complete for the last few months, with the exception of some minor details … like stuff to hang on the walls. But after a few shopping trips I feel like the dirty deed is finally done. Here’s the dining room the way she looks today …

The walls were changed from Sage Green to Steam White by Valspar.
You can see the old dining room in a Christmas post here.
I found the script bamboo mat at a local boutique.
The china cabinet was given a fresh coat of semi-gloss white and the glass doors were stenciled on a whim.
You can read about the cabinet stencil project here.
I found the dry sink at Amazing Grace Antiques, just a few blocks from my house.

The shelf above the dry sink has become my rack for drying flowers.
The flowers drying in this pic are from my daughter Stephanie’s wedding a couple weeks ago.
I pulled them out of the bouquets before they could wilt.
The pillow on the right that says “Farm” is by Stacey at A Sort of Fairytale Girl.
Most of the mirrors are from Carter’s Cottage, which is where I get Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.
I love my little mirror collection! I have another collection of mirrors in the family room.
The old Victorian light fixture was gold and I painted it white.
I’m still thinking about replacing it. Can’t make up my mind.
Here’s the room from the other angle. The Windsor chairs are painted Graphite, with dark wax.
The smaller chairs from a flea market wear Duck Egg Blue with clear wax – all are Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.
The tabletop is painted Old White ASCP while its legs are Duck Egg Blue.
An old bookcase is tucked into the corner opposite the china cabinet.
In my opinion, a dining table should have fresh flowers on it.
These were picked from nearby fields and placed inside Ball jars.
Inexpensive and easy to do!
I found the old drawer at the flea market for just $5.

The vendor had a bunch of these drawers. I should have bought more than just one.
A little burlap tucked inside adds a little texture and softness.
The dining room is all ready for dinner, but now I’m too tired to cook.
Think I’ll go for a walk with hubby instead and enjoy a glass of wine.

  3. I love your space, it is so farm house. I have to know what the green floor is in the kitchen (am loving it from what I can see)? Also are your dining room floors stained or painted? What is the texture on the ceiling? Talk about 20 questions. Love your whole look:)

  4. Beautiful. And so usable at the same time. You see so many overdone dining rooms and you just know that no one actually uses them. Yours is the perfect mix. Just lovely. Thanks for sharing, liz

  6. Oh my goodness! I’m dying over your dining room!! Charm and character oozes from everything you have in it! I especially love your china cabinet and the stenciling you did. Beautiful! The wild flowers in ball jars are perfect. What a dreamy space you have. You should be very proud! 🙂

  7. Jennifer, your tablescape is so beautiful! I love that the flowers are from a field nearby and that box with the burlap couldn’t make a better setting for them. Did you stencil the rug? I love the look of your dining room now. I clicked over to see the previous version. It’s so light and wonderful the way you have decorated it. I can see some very cool green floor tiles peeking out from your kitchen. I love that color. And I’m with you on the staircase you highlighted at Christmas…the window is a huge plus. I’m a fanatic about stairs (I don’t have any and grew up in Florida where everything is flat) and yours with the little curve are so cool! Thanks for the look into your world. I enjoyed it immensely!

  8. Very pretty and it looks like you get lots of natural light too, lucky you. I especially love the variety of painted and distressed chairs, with the black comb back being my personal favourite. Great vintage mirrors too.

  9. Your dining room is so cute! Love the colors and all your personal touches. I like your idea of putting your jars of flowers in an old drawer for a centerpiece. I’m going to have to tuck that idea away to use someday.

  11. It’s been a few days since I’ve been able to stop by and I’ve missed a lot! Your dining room is perfect! How great to have a finished project. I can’t decide if your fresh flowers or the stenciled glass is my favorite part? Is it ok if I have two favorites in this room? Really, it turned out so nice and I love all the contrast and interest you have added!
