Dropcloth Curtain Makeover

A few months ago I made some dropcloth curtains for the family room. While I thought myself quite clever for using dropcloth for the panels and twine for the tabs … the truth of the matter is … I don’t like them. I kept looking at them and thinking something was missing. Then it hit me. They need something feminine. And white. Hmmmm … maybe an overlay of tulle and some lace for the tiebacks.

Of course, step number one is to keep Lil Puddy off the fabric. Easier said than done.

I simply pinned a double layer of tulle to the top of the dropcloth panel and sewed just this one seam.

The next step was to make simple tie-backs. No sewing necessary.
I just cut the amount of lace needed and hooked them to a small nail.
Someone’s finally getting tired. And it’s not me.
The picture doesn’t do them justice. They’re much prettier in person.
And it will look better when I’m finished with this room.
This is softer, and much more me. They were too blah before (see them here).
Now it’s time to go outside and enjoy our summer-like weather.

FYI … Rosemary has another giveaway over at Villabarnes!

  3. Just what they needed! It’s so funny because I just slipcovered a chair with a dropcloth and it needs SOMETHING, I just can’t decide what. I know exactly what you mean. You did a beautiful job.

  4. How do I love these curtains? Let me count the ways. You knew exactly what to add and how much to add to your original design to make them perfect. How clever you are, Jennifer! Nicely photographed as well. And your inclusion of Puddy in the “story” is very creative. So cute. Love your blog.

  5. I’ve seen lots of dropcloth out there in blogland, but none with tulle. I think that you will start a new trend, because your curtains are quite lovely now!

  6. What a fantastic idea – completely turns dropcloth into something romantic and flowy!

  9. Well if you aren’t talented!!! What an amazing look! You were right…they needed some softening and they are absolutely breathtaking now! Wow!!!!
Speaking of sewing….do they still have that marvelous fabric store in Geneva on the corner by the courthouse…across on the other side of the street if I remember. It was a wonderful fabric store!

  10. I absolutely love your curtains!! I found them on Pinterest (is there anywhere else to look? LOL!) and am in love! I have the drop cloths, just need to get the tulle. What did you attach them to the rod with? It looks like brown yarn or something, but I can’t tell. Thanks!
