Earth Inspired Fall Table Setting

To create my latest tablescape, I took my cue from Mother Nature and set an earth inspired fall table setting. Wood mushrooms, small gourds, and a bit of greenery set the stage for an earthy dining experience.

Today and tomorrow I’m joining a few friends for the Styled + Set blog tour organized by my friend Lory at Designthusiasm. You can visit their table settings and entertaining ideas at the links provided at the end of this post. If you’re coming over from Jamie’s place at So Much Better with Age, welcome!!

Recently I shared my fall mantel using mushrooms and owls, and realized that these same mushrooms would look amazing on the dining table as a centerpiece.

Funny. After sharing my mushroom-inspired fall mantel, a blogging friend wrote me from England and said that mushrooms were all the rave for fall décor in the U.K. I often think that my decorating inclinations tend to gravitate toward European taste and design.

Wood Mushroom - Earth Inspired Table Setting

I fell in love with the intricate carvings of these wood mushrooms from Cocoon in Geneva. Is there anything more earthy than a mushroom? Okay, maybe dirt is more earthy.

I used my dark gray plates from Crate and Barrel along with my wood chargers to enhance the organic appeal of my earth inspired table setting.

You could say this is an early fall table setting since I didn’t use the traditional fall colors of orange, rust, or yellow. Rather, this tablescape reminds me of the colors you see just before the earth bursts forth in its riotous autumn color palette.

This time of year is always bittersweet for me. I hate that summer is waving goodbye but love that fall is making its glorious entrance. I always feel so torn between the two seasons.

Coming up this week is a pumpkin recipe on Tuesday (it’s super easy and you’ll love it) along with my fall home tour on Wednesday! I’m still finishing up the photos for that so I feel a little under the gun.

Next up on today’s tour is Annie from Zevy Joy who always has something beautiful to share.. For more fall table setting inspiration, visit my Styled + Set friends below, with a few more sharing their tablescapes tomorrow.

  1. Jennifer very pretty and I love the mushrooms you have been using.. I have been going a softer natural side of fall this year and it’s become my favorite and may be my go to from now on.

    Have a great day

    1. Thank you so much, Claire! The paint color is Downtown by Benjamin Moore. Depending on the light in the room, it can look either green or more tan. It’s very versatile. 🙂

  2. I love your earthy and natural take on decorating. The greenery, the mushrooms, the dark plates, the farm animals, the moody colors in certain rooms — it all so resonates with my own comfort zone when it comes to decor. You are a constant inspiration.

    1. Aw, thank you Pat! I’ve always leaned toward white and pastels but now I’m loving earthy and organic. When I was first married, I was really into Asian design. Who knows what will be next? Maybe Mid Century Modern.

      1. I could get on board with that also. Mid-Century Modern was pretty much the ONLY middle-class decor when I first set up housekeeping in the early 60s. We had it at home in the 50s, so my hand-me-downs were definitely original – which now would be labeled “vintage.” : )

  3. Love your table the mushrooms add an extra appeal of imagination ( i think of little fairies living under them lol). Very beautiful an inspiration to all.

    1. Thanks Kim! They make me think of fairies too. I might do something mushroom and fairy related at Christmas. I had an idea while setting the table. Stay tuned! 🙂

  4. Jennifer,
This is so beautiful. You outdid yourself. It’s simple, and woodsy and warm. I love it.
    Happy Fall!
