Enjoy a Virtual Leaf Peeping Trip to New England!

Most of the trees across the country are starting to peak with their fall color and it’s such a gorgeous scene. I love that God gives us this brilliant burst of color before the branches empty themselves of foliage. When I think of where I’d most like to travel during autumn, hands down it’s the northeast area. Rather than be sad I couldn’t make that trip this year, I thought it’d be fun to take a virtual leaf peeping trip to New England with you! So grab a cup of coffee, kick your feet up, and enjoy!

Vermont Barn in the Fall Season

The barn and winding road above is in Vermont. This is the type of scenery that makes me want to go to New England during autumn. I’ve only been there once and I was just a kid, so I don’t remember too much. Although I definitely remember Provincetown, Massachusetts after dark.

New Hampshire

Below is a foot bridge in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. I don’t think I’ve ever been there, although we did visit Lake Sunapee during my childhood family trip back in the day. Exploring the trails and all there is to see in and around the White Mountains would be so fun. Don’t the orange and gold leaves look great against the green foliage?

Another sight to see in that area is Flume Gorge with a covered bridge over an amazing waterfall. The leaves are just starting to turn yellow. So pretty!

Nestled in the heart of the White Mountains is the Franconia Notch State Park and the Pemigewasset River. This fall scene reminds me of the covered bridges in Parke County, Indiana. My mom and dad used to take me to see those bridges in the autumn season.

New England has its own collection of quaint covered bridges and for some reason, I find them endearing. Now I want to head Northeast even more for in-person leaf peeping.

Vermont

Have you ever been to Vermont? If you have, you’re probably familiar with scenic route 100. According to Trip Savvy, you can drive the length of the route in about five hours.

When you drive Route 100, you’ll see The Vermont Country Store in Weston. The photo below is the Rockingham store. Some of you might receive their mail order catalog.

Also on Route 100 is Ben and Jerry’s factory in Waterbury. That right there is enough reason to visit Vermont.

How pretty is this fall evening scene of Church Street Marketplace in Burlington, Vermont? I feel like Gene Kelly is going to appear and dance around and sing. New England feels like the perfect place to visit in fall. If you live there, I’m a bit jealous of you.

The shopping district in historic Woodstock, Vermont is also quaint and charming with the changing leaves and colorful mums in the front of the stores.

Massachusetts

Let’s head over to Beacon Hill in Boston for some more leaf peeping. And maybe some pumpkin spotting too!

The bright yellow leaves contrast beautifully against the red brick building.

This tree-lined street with beautiful historic homes looks like the perfect neighborhood for trick or treating.

Actually, Salem, Massachusetts might be the most memorable place to visit on Halloween.

Connecticut

Guess what? Connecticut has covered bridges! This is the172-foot-long West Cornwall covered bridge spanning the Housatonic River. It looks beautiful in autumn.

The West Cornwall Covered Bridge (also known as Hart Bridge) is a wooden covered bridge built around 1864 over the Housatonic River

For some reason I have a fondness for state capitol buildings, and Connecticut’s legislative building in Hartford doesn’t disappoint, especially when framed with fall leaves. It almost looks like a castle and I found out it was built around the same time as my house.

Rhode Island

Six states make up the area we call New England: Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. I’ve been to all of them except Maine. The pretty scene below is Roger Williams Park in Rhode Island.

Maine

When you head to Maine for a leaf peeping trip, Acadia National Park would sure make a breathtaking trip!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this virtual leaf peeping trip to New England. I could’ve shared tons of gorgeous photos but I need to get some sleep! So I’ll leave you with just a couple more fall photos.

Hopefully you can take some time to do a little leaf peeping in your own neighborhood this weekend!

  1. I just returned from 2 weeks holiday in NH and ME. The leaves weren’t popping so much at the start of the trip but by the end they were in their amazing glory. I adore NE. Everything is picturesque, clean, quaint, charming – I could go on and on with adjectives! I would move there in a heartbeat given the chance. Thanks for sharing all the gorgeous photos. I’m marking some to keep as my background on my computer so I can see them everyday.

    1. Hi Sarah! You’re so lucky to have gone on a trip to New England. Hubby and I plan to go next year. He went to high school in New Hampshire and I know he’s looking forward to getting back there for a visit. I’m so glad you found a use for the photos by using them as your computer background! Great idea.

  2. We lived in Boston for over 25 years and had a weekend house in New Hampshire as well. I’ve been to all the places you posted and many more. Thanks for posting this lovely reminder.
We now live in Park City UT and it has it’s own pretty fall, but nothing like New England. We will probably move back in the next few years.

    1. Hi Janice! I’m glad this post took you down memory lane. A friend of mine is moving to Park City in a couple of years (if not sooner). It’s beautiful out there, but I understand your desire to go back east. There’s just something about its history and beauty that’s so enchanting.

  3. I like you, find New England a bit like a storyland; especially in the Fall and Winter.
However, being a Southern gal, nothing brings a tear of awe to my eye quite like the Blue Ridge in autumn…..

  4. New England is my home, and although I know there are other parts of the country that are equally beautiful…I can’t imagine moving away from here.
I love the history, the landscapes, the culture, the architecture…I could go on.
Our sports teams are pretty great too. 😉
I hope you get a nice long vacation here next Autumn, Jennifer!

  6. This was fun! I have taken driving trips through much of the U.S., but for some reason New England has escaped me.

  7. Thank you for that little trip Jennifer, spectacular! Fall is my favourite time of year mainly because of the leaves.
I look forward to seeing New England in person one of these days once the borders reopen. It’s on my list!

  10. Beautiful scenery! I loved the tour via my couch, but I’ll skip the Trick or Treating on that tree lined street. Reminded me too much of Michael Meyers!

  11. Thanks for sharing those gorgeous photos. My husband and I did a trip down the eastern seaboard of the U.S. in the fall of 2014. It was stunning and I loved all the small towns along the way!
