Fall Home Tour 2017: Part Two

Welcome to part two of my fall home tour! This week is another round of blogger home tours and I’d like to give a special thanks to April at House by Hoff and Krista at The Happy Housie for organizing this week’s Seasonal Simplicity event.  Cherished Bliss is on today’s tour just before me. Be sure to visit Ashley and her pretty home if you haven’t already. (This post contains affiliate links.)

Farmhouse Entryway

Last week’s fall home tour featured my sitting room and dining room. Today I’m sharing my entryway and family room. I’ve completely changed my entryway.

The desk is now in a bedroom and a comfy new chair from Pier 1 and ottoman from Target have taken its place. To be honest, we weren’t using the desk very often and now I have a cozy chair next to the big windows for reading and looking outside.  Gray curtains with a scroll work pattern replace summer’s white curtains.

An inexpensive and very soft throw is on hand to add a little warmth, while an orange velvet pillow lends a touch of color.

The tufted ottoman opens up to provide much-needed storage in my 150-year old farmhouse.

I love this vintage book about wildflowers. It’s written in a novel-style format.

A black and white sheep print from Kirkland’s replaces the cow canvas that used to hang here.

Fall Family Room

I’ve made changes in the family room too. I’m feeling especially motivated these days to get stuff done around the house. I think I just need things to be “done” instead of continuously in transition mode.

I replaced the white summer curtains in here, too. I chose linen-colored drapes with white scroll work at the top. So the curtains in here are similar yet different than the ones in the entryway. I also swapped out the drop cloth “slip covers” with much softer thin quilts. Leaving the white sectional exposed just isn’t feasible with our kitties. It’s so much easier to throw the quilts in the washing machine than struggle with removing the white covers.

A new tufted chair and ottoman now takes the place of the little corner cabinet. I’ll share my motivation for this chair in a future post. The lamps are also a new addition on the antique side table.

Pillows and throws in warm colors create a fall vibe. And when I spied the architectural drawing of a French train station in my favorite store, I had to bring it home.

I wanted to replace the mirrors with one single piece of large artwork. This one is eight feet long!

And then I found the French vineyard pillows …

I’ve never shown where our TV resides – until today. This corner was a mess until we finally broke down and purchased a decent TV stand. I tried to find one that matched the wood of our coffee table. Wayfair to the rescue! I’d prefer not to have the TV in full view, but we have to angle it so I try to make the best of it with a farmhouse-style TV cabinet.

Speaking of the coffee table, a galvanized tray of heirloom pumpkins and bittersweet graces the top.

Hubby picked out this gnarly pumpkin and I think it’s so cool.

And guess what? I found another cow painting! I chose this one for its darker background.

I think I’m going to frame this canvas painting. I feel like it needs to take up a little more space on this wall. This cow needs a name. Any suggestions? Nancy, one of my readers named my lighter-colored cow “Tulip.” I received a lot of great name suggestions for Tulip – it was hard to choose.

  1. I also struggle to hide electronics. I had a large copier/ scanner/ fax on my desk and a small tv in my studio. I decided to try to find a three panel screen (like a fireplace screen) to cover them when not in use. I may even make my own with plywood, hinges and wallpaper.
Your home looks warm and inviting.

  6. I know what you mean about cats on the sofa. I have a drop cloth on mine. Take it outside and shake it off and throw it in the wash. I love the sheep. I have a pinterest page full of them.

  11. I would love to live in your home! It’s so welcoming. Have you named your new cow? I would name him Maurice or Jean Claude since you just added the French train station, you must have a French cow!
