Fall Recipe ~ Apple Sausage Cheddar Monkey Bread

That’s a mouthful, isn’t it?  Apple Sausage Cheddar Monkey Bread!  I came across this fall recipe when I was relaxing with a couple of my fave magazines this weekend.  I typically find my creative inspiration from magazines, whether it’s decorating or cooking. Ever since I was a teenager I turned to magazines to unwind and enjoy a little “me time.”  In high school I enjoyed fashion magazines; today I scour food and decorating magazines.

Fall Inspiration and a Little Me Time with Favorite Magazines

This weekend I curled up on the couch with Real Simple® and Sunset® magazines. Do you ever choose a magazine simply because the cover is pretty and inspires you?  I know the old saying says, “Don’t judge a book (or magazine in this case) by its cover” but I frequently choose a magazine because of the cover photo!  When I was shopping at our Jewel-Osco store, both covers caught my eye and I had to take them home with me.

Apple Sausage Cheddar Monkey BreadThis month’s issue of Real Simple features a section on apples and since my daughters have been bugging me to go apple picking, I thought I’d check out the recipes at the back of the magazine. As soon as I saw the fall recipe for Apple Sausage Cheddar Monkey Bread, I knew it would be a dish my hubby would love!

Apple Sausage Cheddar Monkey BreadGala apples are my favorite!  Did you know that all of the apples grown in the U.S. are handpicked?  There aren’t any harvesting machines!  I had no idea but I learned this while thumbing through the magazine.

How to Make Apple Sausage Cheddar Monkey BreadApple Sausage Cheddar Monkey Bread is so easy to make! Fry up 8 ounces of crumbled sausage in a 10-inch cast iron skillet until browned. Add 2 small apples, diced, and cook until soft. Put the mixture into a bowl and then add refrigerated canned biscuit dough, cut into 1-inch pieces.  Transfer the mixture back into the skillet.

How to Make Apple Sausage Cheddar Monkey BreadSprinkle 1 and 1/2 cups grated cheddar cheese over the top of the mixture, and put it in a 425 degree oven to bake for 15-20 minutes!  So easy, and so full of flavor!  I love cooking in the kitchen by myself. It’s just another way that I like to de-stress and spend a little “me time.”

Apple Sausage Cheddar Monkey BreadHubby loved this fall recipe and after he was done eating a generous helping, I sent him back outside to finish up some yard work and to give me a little more “me time” with my magazines!
