Farm Table for a Dining Room

Let’s face it. The table is the star of a dining room. It’s one of those furniture pieces that deserve a little investment. It’s a place where your loved ones will gather around to create lasting memories. I tend to prefer a farm table because they’re usually built a little heftier than other options like a glass-top table. Not to mention, they have an organic appeal to them. Here’s a collection of some favorite farmhouse styles.

The natural wood farm table above is narrower than most options out there and works great in a smaller room. Not to mention, the wood looks sturdy while enjoying carved legs.

We had a large, round dining table when I was a kid so this option brings back memories. It’s the perfect shape for a dining nook with a bay window.

This pretty farm table has a natural wood top and white painted legs, which is a look I really like. If you choose a particularly long dining table, hanging a pair of pendant lights is a great look, as opposed to one fixture.

The rustic simplicity of this all-wood table lends an earthy vibe to an all-white kitchen. Cross-back chairs are always a good choice if you’re going for a farmhouse look.

Yes, a farm table can have a bit of sheen to it and still be considered farmhouse style. This little square table fits perfectly next to a little reading nook.

I admit, the first thing I noticed in this room was the gorgeous wood floors!  The farm table is a lighter shade which helps it stand out.

Although the trestle table top here isn’t natural wood, I do think it’s pretty wearing a creamy coat of paint. Chunky legs give it a bit of oomph and upholstered chairs provide a bit of femininity.

A more rough-hewn table looks like it can take a lot of wear and tear. I love its natural beauty.

What type of table do you prefer for your dining room? Rustic, painted, modern – or something else?

  1. Beautiful tables! There’s a lot to choose from! Let us know what you decide! I’d love a new dining room table since mine is beginning to wear out. But new kitchen counters are coming this year! Maybe in a few more years I’ll be working on the dining room.

  2. All of these farmhouse table examples are really pretty, Jennifer. Our dining room table belonged to my husband’s mother and is a rectangle shape. A large round table would fit much better in the room but since it has significance, it is likely here to stay.

  3. I understand your need for a change. But your dining room table is very nice and so pretty decorated for Valentines Day. I can see why you might want a larger one for holidays though.

  4. Love this blog about dining room tables! We had our solid oak dining table for 45 years. We bought it as unfinished, put a light oak stain on it and then redid the finish after the kids had grown and gone. We loved that table. Unfortunately, we lost it, along with everything else, in the recent Valley fire. We are rebuilding and I still can’t get that table style out of my mind for the perfect dining room table. You have helped me realize that I need to think outside the box and be open to a new and maybe totally different look for our dining room.

  5. We just had a friend build us a dining room table and bench from a 1910 old barn. It’s amazing and truly beautiful, he’s going to make me a buffet also. I’m looking for chairs to go with it. I got some ideas from your posts here.
He is also making me a 5 ft. office desk. I really never thought I would been into something as old as this but after seeing, I’m in love.

  6. They are all beautiful farm tables. Hope you find what you are looking for. We are remodeling our bathroom/laundary at the present. It’s go slow as usual. I can’t wait until it’s done. Have a great day!

  7. The small square table is an old pub table – the the sides pull out to make it larger. Still have them all over England.
