Farmhouse Style Decorating

Farmhouse style decorating is growing in popularity and it’s easy to see why. The casual comfort of farmhouse style lends itself well to today’s busy lifestyles. As our world changes with technological evolution, something within us yearns for the simple times of yesteryear. Farmhouse style decorating is the perfect way to satiate that need for good old-fashioned simplicity. Today I’m sharing examples of farmhouse style from my home and the homes of some of my blogging friends. (Please pin photos from the original source.)

Farmhouse Dining Table - Rooms for RentBre at Rooms for Rent recently updated her dining room with a beautiful farmhouse table.

Other farmhouse elements in her room include a simple bench, plates on the wall, and a large wooden dough bowl on the buffet. Such a beautiful room, don’t you think?

Open Shelving in a Farmhouse KitchenFinally, I’ll leave you with my kitchen that has farmhouse style decorating in the form of open shelving, white bead board, a built-in hutch, and no upper cabinets. My house is about 140 years old and I’ve tried to keep it as vintage as possible.

  1. I love the open shelving. I’ve been thinking of doing that in my little kitchen because I don’t have a lot of space. I do love the casual comfy feel of farmhouse style.

  2. I love anything that is warm, friendly, and has memories with it. I nearly cried when I saw the pic with curtains on the closet doors!!! My childhood home, built in 1880 had no closets, my dad built them at the ends of the rooms with no doors. Who could afford to buy doors??? So we had pretty curtains on rods, and I love that look even today…….

  3. I am drawn to the simple elegance and honesty in farmhouse style. Living in a dark arts and crafts bungalow I crave these airy rooms but must live vicariously through blogs and magazines because our home is designated heritage and we must maintain it in its original style. Your kitchen is wonderful! I love white ironstone and enamelware. I collect these for my kitchen too.

  4. We are aiming at Farmhouse style in our new home, because just like you said warm and simple. I know I don’t always comment but I Love coming to your Blog and seeing what you have been up to in your Beautiful Farmhouse. They really are a Labor of Love~

Have a Great Week end Jennifer!!
    Huggs, Nancy

  5. Love it love it love it all, Jennifer! A yummy farmhouse table truly sets the stage in a farmhouse kitchen, and open shelving adds so much charm! Thank you for sharing all of these beautiful homes with us! Now….I’m off to visit your flipboard magazine!!! 🙂
