Fresh Country Style Home Tour

Today’s fresh country style home by J. Steven Kemp pairs two of my favorite decorating staples – wood and the color white. The rooms are warm, inviting, and beautifully styled.

The living room contains a variety of textures. Shiplap walls hug the room, soft linens cover the armchairs, and earthen pottery graces the built-in shelves.

On the other side of the living room is a beautiful fireplace and mantel. A wood mirror takes center stage and I noticed the owner has a small canvas painting on the mantel, like I have on my spring mantel. Color is added to the room in the form of a red Oriental rug.

You’ll find shiplap in the white kitchen, too. Subway tile is used for a back splash and simple cafe curtains hang at the window. Wood floors add warmth to the room.

The kitchen island is also dressed in wood, with a cage pendant light overhead. Another red Oriental rug adds a little cushion underfoot. I like when rooms flow one into another with similar furnishings.

The dining room is the first room I saw in this fresh country style home. I absolutely love it! The chairs are soft and pretty, the black chandelier is graceful, and a pewter vase on the round table complements the pewter plates on the wall. Did you notice the pretty wallpaper on the ceiling? I have embossed wallpaper on the ceiling of my sitting room and I’d like to add it to a few more rooms.

Built-in china cabinets painted gray provide plenty of storage for dishes and glassware.

A butler’s pantry includes a wine fridge. The mirror tile backdrop is a nice touch.

The ultimate mudroom lines a windowed hallway. Plenty of storage for a large family.

This fresh country style home has so many great details, like these rolling wooden doors. A cozy window seat lies just beyond.

  1. I love this home. The decor and paint colors speak my language to a T. My favorites are the separate dining room, which I’ve never had in any home I’ve lived in; and the mud room. I raised 2 kids and many dogs with no mud room, but plenty of mud. This is definitely one of my favorite tour homes.

  2. Thanks for sharing those home tours from almost a decade ago- I loved those far more than anything I have seen in the last few years! I’m definitely ready for a return to those cozy colorful country styles. Now I’m going to see if any of those bloggers are still going? Or maybe I can look at their archives online…
