Who loves Friday? Everyone who works is raising their hand. But even if you’re retired or not working outside of the home, Fridays are fantastic here at Town and Country Living because I share inspiration from around the web with a list of Friday Finds.
Not only do I love Fridays, but I love late summer because it means the farmer’s markets are stocked full of amazing fruits and vegetables. I always end up buying things that end of spoiling because I overestimate how much cooking and canning I’ll do. Please tell me I’m not the only one who’s guilty of that! The spoiled vegetables end up in the compost pile so nothing goes to waste. It just becomes a rather expensive compost pile when that happens.
Canning tomatoes is always a favorite activity for me this time of month even though it’s a messy process. I love the smell of the tomato vines and could stay out in the garden for hours basking in the sun, picking tomatoes, pulling leeks, and feeling special that my hands helped produce something so amazing. Can you imagine how God must have felt when He was creating the universe and all the wonderful things in it? Wow.
I also enjoy freezing corn because it’s so easy to do. I don’t grow corn but Wiltse’s farm just down the road picks it fresh every day. It’s best to either cook or freeze it as soon as possible after picking. The flavor is better that way. My sister owns a farm and her yard is right next to the cornfield. When cooking dinner, she walks out her door to pick fresh corn and immediately prepares it so the flavor is full and sweet. She lives an idyllic life (although I know farming is extremely hard work).
I’ll probably visit a farm market this weekend and make something yummy with whatever’s just been harvested. August and September are the best months for eating fresh! All this talk of food is making me hungry so let’s get on with this week’s Friday Finds.
First up, you don’t want to miss this collection of 18 pretty country verandahs from Australia. Australians are known for their love of outdoor living spaces.
In America, I’m going to say the kitchen is the room we love most. After all, we call it the “heart of the home.” Check out 12 ways to give your kitchen personality. There are great ways to spruce it up without spending a lot of money.
Consider painting some of the trim in your home if you’re ready to spruce up a few other rooms. Although I love natural wood trim, I love painted trim just as much.
Have you heard of William Morris wallpaper? This gorgeous home features quite a bit of it! Of course, it reminds me that I still haven’t wallpapered my downstairs bathroom yet, but I pledge to do so this winter. Really, I do (we’ll see).
I started this post off by talking about harvesting, so let’s finish the farm talk with a collection of beautiful black barns. Have you ever seen one in real life? I haven’t, but I’d like to.
I hope you enjoy your August weekend. It’s a festival weekend in our little town so there will be plenty to do and enjoy.
