Garden Homes and Mango Smoothies: Friday Finds #95

Happy Memorial Day Weekend! It’s always nice to enjoy an extended weekend and it looks like we’re going to have great weather for gardening. We have just a few more things to finish up in the flower and vegetable beds and then we can sit back and enjoy the fruits of our labor. That, and enjoy some weeding along the way.

This weekend I’ll finish potting my aquatic plants for the pond. I bought a gorgeous night-blooming, tropical waterlily for the pond this year. It blooms from about 7 p.m. to 10 a.m. then closes up for the day while the rest of the waterlilies are open. This gives me the opportunity to enjoy seeing waterlilies after work. The day lilies tend to close up around 5 p.m. I’ll be sure to take photos and share them here.

Let’s move on to this week’s Friday Finds. It’s always fun to share a collection of inspiring things every week.

First up – you simply must check out this charming 500 square foot cottage in Norfolk, England called Spink’s Nest. It’s decorated with a gardener’s style and even has a throne toilet! What’s more, it’s available to rent for vacation.

When it comes to decorating, do you struggle with hanging artwork or other pieces on the wall? Kris shares her very handy tips for hanging artwork.

Would you ever move a house to a new location? An Australian couple moved a 1900s Queenslander home to a new location and renovated it. The result is a charming, light and airy home.

Speaking of renovations, you don’t want to miss the renovation of an abandoned Swedish home. Truly stunning and it goes to show what can be done when a little creativity and elbow grease are applied to a diamond in the rough.

I stumbled across these adorable, reversible linen and canvas fabric baskets on Etsy that can be used for plants or organizing household items. So cute!!

I’ll end today’s finds with a refreshing recipe. I’m always looking for new ways to use mangos and came across this Mango Lassi Smoothie that’s perfect for warm weather days.

Enjoy your extended weekend!

  1. Do you happen to know what the bright blue flowering bush/plant is in the top photo is? gorgeous!
I was especially moved by the renovation by the young couple in Sweden. They did such a wonderful job, so perfect for a young family. I remember those years so well. The best.

  2. I was also going to ask about the bright blue flowering shrub? So pretty. That Swedish home is gorgeous. Major renovation but I’m sure so worth it. The cottage in England so charming. Have a great Memorial Day Weekend!

  3. I enjoyed all three of the home tours, so much to see and enjoy. I love the heaters used in Swedish homes and the simple but charming way they decorate. Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend.

  4. It is not unusual to move an old timber house here in Aus especially in the north where most houses are raised off the ground. There are sales lots where you can go to buy a house and have it transported to the building block. Because they were craftsman built using natural materials they transport well. Most are so pretty and worth the trouble. This one has come up a treat.

  5. That Sweden house transformation!? Wow! The colors used with the whites and floral touches and the natural woods used are incredibly right up my alley! So pretty!
Moving a whole house is something I have a hard time imagining. I watched them move that house on Home Town and it amazes me how that happens.
Finally a sunny day and we are placing our final touch on our garden beds…mulch! I have one unexpected planting that will happen as soon as it arrives which I had high hopes for but had no room for…an Eden climbing rose! I didn’t want to pay the price as I already have climbers on the arbor although one I believe isn’t a climber as it was to be soooo…after getting another email from Heirloom roses having a sale, and my using my points…I got the rose for $20 including shipping! Wish we were in Sweden or Australia as they probably don’t deal with Japanese beetles!! A wonderful inspiring post Jennifer! Happy Memorial Weekend to ya!
