Get Cozy with Cabin Style Decorating

Do you love this season of crisp days and getting the house cozy for the autumn season? Cabin style decorating is a great way to add coziness to any room in your house. I think you’ll agree once you see these inspirational photos that showcase the warmth and comfort a cabin provides. (This post contains affiliate links.)

Cabin Style Living Rooms

Natural wood is what you typically see inside the walls of a cabin. This stone fireplace is pretty amazing and the equestrian light fixture makes a statement overhead. While most of the room is decorated in neutrals, one signature chair wears a fun, colored pattern in a Southwest style.

Create cozy cabin style with a charming reading nook. You don’t need a built-in bench. Group a chair with a table, floor lamp – and don’t forget a nearby stack of books.

Cabin style decorating is rustic, natural, with a bit of color thrown in. This living room combines all those elements with wood, stone, and colorful textiles in warm hues.

Rustic Kitchens

White kitchens seem to be the trend these days, but look how pretty this rustic kitchen is.

Rough-hewn logs line the walls of this open kitchen. You might not have wood walls in your home, but you can add elements like natural wood furniture or accents like wood bowls and bread boards.

Warm, honeyed wood wraps this kitchen in cozy appeal. Plenty of pendant lights keep the room from feeling dark and claustrophobic.

Cozy Dining Rooms

You may not think this white dining room has much cabin style, but it does have wood walls and a beamed ceiling. The sparkly chandelier adds a touch of elegance in an otherwise rustic space.

A bit of cuteness is added to the logged walls embracing a breakfast nook. Polka dot chairs and blinds with apples create whimsy. The effect is fun and cozy.

Of the whitewashed rooms featured in today’s post, this one is the most rustic. You can still see the grain of the wood coming through. A collection of Edison lights creates an interesting chandelier. A dark dining table grounds the room while unique chairs provide a modern vibe. It just goes to show you don’t have to follow all the rules when decorating a la cabin style.

Neutral Bedrooms

You might think it’s difficult to add cozy cabin appeal to your home if you don’t have paneled or wood walls. But why not add natural wood planks to just one wall, like this beautiful bedroom? Neutral tones and a view of the mountains outside provide the finishing touches.

Organic Bathrooms

This bathroom has an amazing view with a beautiful tub. If you’ve ever considered an enclosure for your tub, you might want to think about lining the outside with wood for an organic touch.

As is this one.  It’s fun to see the ingenuity that designers put into rooms these days. Birch bark lampshades add instead cabin style and are an easy way to create the look in your own home.

  1. I love the casualness of a cabin style, but I prefer the whitewashed interior as shown in the very first photo. To my eyes, the older this type of wood gets, the more “orange” it gets – just as old oak cabinets do. (speaking from experience in my own kitchen)
I definitely could live with the Southwest look of upholstery and rugs but I think that style should only be used in the woods or the actual Southwest. To see it used in an Indiana subdivision is a little hokey – like a home here decorated as though it is somewhere next to a beach. Ah well, we all have our opinions, right?

  2. I love the cabin look, but I am not sure I could handle all wood walls and floors everywhere, but I love to tour them and look at them on pinterest.

  3. Loved each & everyone of these looks. These especially look great to me & can give me some ideas for my home as I live in outside of Tucson, Arizona. I live in an adobe brick ranch with wood ceilings with beams. These were right up my alley!

  4. The glass shelves in the white dining room!!!
What a great way to update an outdated pass through area! Love it. Hmmm…

  5. I live in an authentic log “cabin”. My husband bought and took down 3 different log cabins from the 1860’s, and re-assembled them. I can’t begin to explain how much work, labor, love and devotion it took to build our home. The logs were marked so they would be reassembled in the correct order. He washed by hand each log. I helped before the homes were taken down. The logs on the inside were covered with layers of newspaper, wallpaper etc. through the years for insulation. He was picky about buying the old logs. He chose logs that were wide and not insect-eaten. So when you look at our walls, you see logs with minimum amount of caulking. I could go on and on, ha, ha,,but reading this article, I just had to tell my story of our home. We’ve been living in it for 20 years now.

    1. Wow Linda! What an amazing story. The creation of your home would make for a great television special. Kudos to your husband for being so meticulous. I’m sure any home magazine would love to tell your story. You’re so lucky to have such a wonderful home!
