Gettin’ My Holiday Groove On

Can I just say something before sharing the latest round of holiday shots? I’m worn out! I’ve never been exposed to so much talent and inspiration until I discovered blogland … and while I want to try all the latest projects I see … I just can’t keep up! I had plans for embroidered ornaments, burlap stockings, moss Christmas trees and more. But it’s just not gonna happen, seeing that Christmas is less than a week away. But you know what? I’m okay with that because I still get to enjoy seeing everyone else’s handiwork while hopping from one blog to another. So here’s a little bit of my holiday groove, sans all those projects I had on the to-do list.

I love that our staircase has a window.
Just wish it had one of those impressive railings. Sigh.
These steps wore rose-colored carpet when we moved in. I ripped it all out by myself
and hauled it to the curb. I much prefer wood, even if it’s painted.
The walls are Lacecap (as in lacecap hydrangea) by Martha Stewart.
This is probably my favorite wall color in the house.
You’d be surprised at the furniture we’ve been able to manuever
up our little winding staircase. What goes up must not come down!
Except for the cats, that is. Trixie decided to get in on this photo shoot.
Our little red club chair was a fun find at Amazing Grace Antiques.

The door leads to our laundry room, which is hopefully getting a makeover
by my new son-in-law (wedding pics are here and here).
The little ornaments on the evergreen swag are tied together with twine.
I saw a similar one at Carter’s Cottage Interiors and had to have one (this one I made).
Moving to the other side of the room now … taken before most of the presents were wrapped.
See Trixie in the dining room? She likes to sit by the vents to enjoy the heat coming up.
And here she is again, stealing center stage.
There was a lot of rose-colored carpet in this room, too.
I have a few of these galvanized tubs that we used at my daughter’s wedding …
filled them up with ice to keep the bottled drinks cold and frosty.
The package strings are safe in here from playful kitties feeling the Christmas spirit.
Close-up shots of Christmas ornaments are here and here.
The dining room is in transition. Painted the little chairs in Duck Egg Blue (Annie Sloan Chalk Paint).
The Windsor chairs are next. I wrote about this room in a previous post.
Funny, I haven’t seen many poinsettias in blogland. I just love them though.
Especially these creamy white ones. Next year I think I’ll have more of them.

And so … back to the wreath on the stairway window. These are just a couple rooms showing off
their holiday groove. The family room and kitchen are too messy to reveal right now. Maybe later …

  1. I love love your house! Love the stairway with the window, the painted steps and floors and the wall colour is gorgeous! You have done a beautiful job in decorating your home. Your tree is beautiful too. I know what you mean by all the ideas in blogland for decorating. I didn’t do anything either, just stuck with what I have and know. LOL Merry Christmas Jennifer! Blessings, Pamela

  2. Your home is gorgeous – I love your painted stairs and flooring! And I’m a bit worn out from blogging as well – time to party (at real live parties)!

  3. Hi Jennifer… Don’t worry about not getting it all done. At least YOU have a tree up! A very PRETTY tree!

I just barely got the front courtyard decorated and don’t know if I will get the pictures up in time… AND the candies are still waiting to get made and mailed?! Who am I kidding!

I am like you as far as enjoying everyone else’s Christmas decorations. At least there will me no having to pack it all back up. HA!

    xoxo Bunny Jean

  5. That silly Trixie! When I am going through pictures for a blog post, I will often be surprised to see one or more of the cats in a picture! It’s a good thing….
Your home is lovely. Your floors are gorgeous – great patina. I, too, ripped up all my rose colored carpet in a previous house – hallway, steps, living room. I’d start on it after my daughter was in bed, and would just keep going….
Great wall color – the lacecap and others, and your swags, tubs, trees are all terrific.

  6. Very pretty house and beautifully decorated for the holidays! I love that window and staircase, too – Not to mention your adorable furbaby! 🙂 And the job you did on your floors is fabulous!

  7. I love the touches of Christmas all through the house. Your home provided the perfect backdrop for your festive Christmas decor. I love the colors in your home and that wood floor is amazing! Sharon

  8. I love your style!!! And the staircase!!! It is exactly like my grandma’s old farmhouse….I remember being scared to go up and down as a child because it was open on the one side!!! And I prefer the painted wood steps and floors….the newel post is just perfect….love the wall color…..Merry Christmas…cleo

  9. Yes, I too feel over whelmed from so much beautiful Christmas decor from blogger friends and now you’re another one because your home looks gorgeous, you do not need to admire much. I love your tree with the galvanized bucket filled with presents, it looks great! You have a terrific space if you ever wnat to add a pretty railing, but in the meantime, it is so cozy like this. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year. Just dropped from Open House.

  10. Your home is so lovely, Jennifer! I love all the architectural detail and the beautiful paint colors you have chosen! Thanks so much for stopping by and following…I am a new follower, too!

  11. The blue walls are so pretty – especially with the gold frames. So many pretty details. And yes, blog reading can be exhausting…in a good way 🙂 Thank you for joining the party!

  12. Beautiful decor. I love the mason jar candles on the stairs. How old is your house? I can tell it’s very old by the floor boards and the steep stairs. My house was built in 1850. I love century plus homes.

  13. I was visiting Nester when I saw the Christmas Tour of Homes 2011.
Your home looks like it’s straight from a magazine! I love it!
I really miss living in a home with beautiful crown molding.
You just don’t see that detail in Las Vegas.
    Merry Christmas!

  14. Your comments about your stairway made me laugh. Only somebody who has lived with a narrow winding stairway can truly relate. I refinished my 4th and LAST stairway in our current house and have never had a pretty railing either. Regardless, your house looks beautiful and is filled with vintage charm. Visiting from Common Ground. Merry Christmas!
