Gorgeous Classic Cottage in San Francisco

Today’s home tour features the type of architectural exterior that I love. Interesting windows, porches on all levels, and a backdrop of trees that hug the property. Although I’m calling this a classic cottage, it’s not a small house – but the design elements learn toward cottage style.

A large windowed door opens up into the cool blue entryway. I prefer a front door with a window, but some people might feel it’s not private enough.

The living room is bright and open with a set of French doors. The space is clean and uncluttered, with playful fabrics on furniture and pillows.

Just off the living room is the staircase with a tall narrow window lighting the way.

The kitchen has a traditional vibe with custom cabinetry and subway tile. A statement light fixture illuminates the kitchen island.

A trio of sunny yellow metal stools pull up to the kitchen island. Flowers and lemons are brought in as additional yellow accents.

A banquette style breakfast nook is tucked into a windowed corner of the kitchen, with a door leading to the outside patio for alfresco dining.

A spacious landing resides at the top of the classic cottage staircase. Note the round window and skylight with a large window for outdoor views.

  1. The neutral tones with added pops of color is so soothing. Easy to change your pops of color than all the walls and furniture. The wallpaper in the girls room is adorable. I always think I’ll try a little wallpaper somewhere (we used to wallpaper everything years ago) just to add some added depth but I’m a bit scared of the removal later on..oh how I will never forget that! The stool with the deer legs is interesting and adds a whimsical touch. I like that.

  2. An absolutely beautiful home! A couple of the accent color choices are not my taste (I would love to see coral instead of gold in the living room and anything but bright yellow in the kitchen), but overall the home is absolute perfection! I like that you noted that it is cottage-style, as we (me included) often think of “cottage” as small and cozy. This home proves it can be expansive and still qualify as Cottage. Well done!
