Why You Need Healthy Houseplants in Your Life

home decor February 20, 2019

My favorite decor trend for 2019 is the resurgence of popularity in houseplants. Plants are good for your soul and great for your health. If you think you have a brown thumb and can’t grow healthy houseplants, think again!

I’m a huge fan of philodendrons and my most recent acquisition is this gorgeous Hope Philodendron with its large, lacy leaves. Don’t be afraid to bring it into your home. Follow the required light and watering needs and you’re on your way to growing healthy houseplants.

Did you know that studies by NASA revealed that houseplants can remove up to 87% of toxins from the air in just 24 hours? If you’re an allergy sufferer, this should be music to your ears!

Another recent obsession is the Prince of Orange Philodendron. I’m obsessed with its bronzy leaves mixed in with green.

I have two of these beauties in pots like this with a bronze band at the bottom. It’s fun to pair plants with a complementary garden pot or basket.

Add a Nerve Plant (Fittonia) to your home to filter the air. This dainty beauty likes high humidity so feel free to put it in the tub once you’re done showering. It’s also a great choice for a terrarium.

Decorating with houseplants is a lot of fun. Rather than spend money on knickknacks that simply look pretty, why not add plants that look beautiful while also filtering the air?

If you’re a little nervous about growing plants, try a Swedish Ivy. This one was pretty small when I bought it this summer. Now it’s more than doubled in size. Water it when the soil dries (stick your finger about an inch into the soil to check for wetness). You can place Swedish Ivy outside during the summer and it will go gangbusters!

Swedish Ivy makes a great houseplant due to its ease in care.

When choosing plants, I like a variety of colors, texture, and architecture. Baby Tears is a dainty plant that create pretty trails of greenery.

This is my first time growing a Miniature Orchid. It enjoys bright light so I keep it in a southern-facing window.

Healthy houseplants lift your spirits and decrease stress. Be sure to add some to your bedroom to improve sleep. When you wake in the morning the sight of greenery will put a smile on your face!

I’d love to hear about your favorite indoor plants. I’ll share more tips on raising houseplants in a future post.

Woe is me…the only house plant I can keep alive is pothos. And clippings put in water will send out roots thus creating free plants.
