How to Decorate a Bedroom in Your Own Style

Even though the longest day of the year, December 21, has come and gone, the nights are still longer than the days. I don’t know about you, but I tend to sleep a little more in the winter. There’s no sun to wake you up at 6:00 so you’re body’s fooled into thinking it’s too early to get up. January white sales are on so it’s a good time to consider how to decorate a bedroom in your own style. I’ve got nine examples to share with you today for inspiration.

ECLECTIC STYLE

Let’s start with a fun, eclectic bedroom that looks like it’s a guest room in a she shed. The walls are painted navy while the vaulted ceiling is pure white. The contrast is appealing and true to eclectic style that uses confident colors. The brass metal bed might seem unexpected, but the contrast works against the dark walls.

 

BOHO CHIC

Next up is a boho chic bedroom with a hint of farmhouse style. The woven pendant light makes a statement above the white bed that enjoys a corral of pillows at the headboard. A simple floral print lends itself to wall art. Consider neutral tones if you’re a bohemian kind of girl.

 

TRANSITIONAL STYLE

If you like traditional styling with little bit of modernity, transitional decorating is for you. This bedroom makes great use of textiles in a monochromatic color scheme, which are common in contemporary decorating. Linen bedding is ultra luxurious and just a touch of color is brought in with a pale blue pillow and tan accents in the room.

 

MODERN COUNTRY

I would define my own style as modern country. It’s not primitive country, nor is it cutesy (remember the teddy bear trend that everyone loved, including myself?). It’s a little more sophisticated yet still comfortable and a little bit casual. In this bedroom, irregular board and batten is added to one wall and painted dark green for drama. Leather pillows, black and white stripes, and a beautiful bench pull the look together.

 

SHABBY CHIC

Just like country style, shabby chic has grown up over the years. It’s a little more refined and elegant but still incorporates soft-hued textiles and plenty of romance. This bed is sure to make you feel like you’re sleeping on a cloud.

 

RUSTIC STYLE

Rough, uneven walls set the tone for a rustic style bedroom. An old metal bed is the focal point beneath the buffalo art work that’s adhered to the wall with tape. An attractive collection of pillows and plaid throws add interest and color to the comfy white comforter.

 

TRADITIONAL STYLE

Traditional styling is always classic and appeals to a wide range of people. It’s the style that most embraces history. The older architecture of this room lends itself well to traditional style. The room is kept interesting with a textured comforter, a whimsical cut-out light fixture, and a pretty patterned wallpaper.

 

MEDITERRANEAN STYLE

Mediterranean rooms incorporate an expanse of white with pops of rich color. They’re not fussy but can be dramatic and very pretty. You won’t find a lot of knick-knacks with this style.

 

SOUTHWEST STYLE

Southwest print pillows and a skull with antlers are a sure giveaway that this bedroom is southwestern style. You could also categorize this bedroom as eclectic style since it includes bold color and modern lighting. When you consider how to decorate a bedroom, keep in mind that it’s okay to mix styles, which is a great way to personalize your space.
