Lake Cottage with Southern Roots

The past month I’ve been looking at homes with my daughter and her family. They sold their house and need to find a new one, pronto. They know I like looking at houses and sometimes ask me to tag along. Today’s lake cottage by Vive Workshop reminds me of some of the homes we’ve seen. This charmer with Southern roots is sure to capture your heart.

Step inside the front door and you’re immediately greeted by comfortable, cozy spaces. A dark accent wall highlights the dining room and really makes the chandelier and wood finishes stand out.

Although the cabinets are a creamy white, the kitchen emanates warmth and charm with a blue kitchen island and cross-back bar stools.

A black kitchen counter top adds drama and depth to the room, without feeling over-powering.

Modern furniture mixes with vintage pieces to create eclectic appeal in the lake cottage family room. A print of Spanish moss on a live oak tree gives a nod to the home’s Southern location.

Under-the-eaves bedrooms can be a challenge to decorate, but this one is nicely done with a two-tone paint treatment.

A black metal bed takes center stage in a child’s bedroom. Mixed patterns and colors on the bed create home style appeal.

You’ll find more mixed patterns in the master bedroom with its retro beach bather artwork.

  1. I love the dining room in this home with the dark wall and the plaid rug. This is so striking. Although I enjoyed the colors as opposed to last weeks home I found there didn’t seem to be any cohesiveness from room to room to tie everything together. All in all this was a cute home.

    1. Jen, Can you tell me anything about the painting with the trees covered with Spanish moss. I love it and would love to find a print. Thanks

  2. I loved how they took colors from the rugs to decorate the rooms or at least that’s what i saw. The rugs were stunning.

  3. Loved the color of the dining room wall with the plaid rug. My kind of decor. Otherwise, I found it to be a warm and welcoming home with no particular wow factor, which I don’t believe is necessary anyway.

  4. My life is one long stress bubble at the moment with mom and dad having medical problems. This home is so calming and I love it. It is strong in accents and colors that root the rooms and you just get the effect that when you walk in things are quiet. Just what I need in my life at the moment. Love the entrance and the dinning room with the strong white and black block carpet under the table. Grounds the room beautifully. A bit of peace. in this home just for me 🙂

  5. Thank you for featuring my home! It was such a sweet cottage home that fit our personalities with colors we love, nautical touches, and personalized artwork. It might not be everyone’s taste, but my main goal in the designs I do is to tell about the client. 😊 Walking into this home always put us at ease.

    1. I think your home gets a 10+ There is not one thing I would change. I could walk in and feel like I was home.
