Modern Country Fall Home Tour 2020

Welcome to the first part of my modern country fall home tour! I haven’t been in the mood to decorate for autumn, due to four gloomy days in a row. But when the sun came out on Sunday, I felt a pep in my step again and got busy decorating.

Modern Country Fall Home Tour - the Dining Room

First, let me give a shout out to my friend Linda who blogs at It All Started with Paint. She organized this week’s tour, which is normally hosted by Marty at A Stroll Thru Life. Marty has been going through a rough time but her home is still on the tour this Friday. You can visit all the homes throughout the week at the links at the end of this post.

I tried not to get too over the top with this year’s fall home tour. I think I have about four bins of fall decor in storage (that I could find anyway), and I only used one and a-half! In the dining room, I started by making my tumbleweed the centerpiece on the table. It fit perfectly in my large metal bowl.

The tumbleweed might look soft but it’s actually pretty prickly and you have to be careful when you handle it. Hubby thought I was ridiculous for buying it but I like its organic appeal.

My pumpkin painting sits in a wooden bowl on the sideboard, joined by creamy faux flowers and a baby boo pumpkin.

One of my philodendrons sits in a brush stroke pot. One of these days I’m going to do a plant and pot pairing blog post. Sometimes I have a hard time finding pots to suit a plant. They need to go together, in my humble opinion.

You know, I said I wasn’t going to use pumpkins in my fall decor this year. That didn’t last long! I can’t resist baby boos.

My dining buffet still has the four feather prints above it, along with my Philodendron Brazil in its footed wooden bowl.

But this guy is new! A fall-scented, hand-poured candle resides in a gorgeous wooden bowl that I found at Hive and Home via Instagram. They offer wax refills so you can keep using the bowl as a candle.

This is still my favorite plant and I rarely have to fuss with it. Just water it when it gets dry to the touch.

One of my storage bins was filled with dried gourds in a range of shapes and sizes. I forgot I had so many!

Opposite my front door is the small bachelor’s chest with my healhy sansaveria and a wooden atrium filled with owls.

You might remember these guys from last year when I paired them with my wooden mushrooms.

In the sitting room, I swapped out plants and vases from my late summer mantel with more of the gourds. The amber bottles stay because they’re perfect for fall and I love the way they glow when the sun hits them.

Most of my dried gourds are found at flea markets and small boutiques.

I think I’ve decided how I want to paint my sitting room. It just feels to me like it’s missing something and I hope I’ve finally pinpointed it. I’m hoping to accomplish that task in October.

My cow still presides over the room’s activities. I think I’ll swap out the cow lamp for another – no need to have a herd going on in here. LOL.

Because – there are more cows on the other side of the room!

Baby boos and gourds fill a rustic wooden bowl I found at Cocoon in Geneva. Natural wood is becoming my new fetish.

And finally, a couple more dried gourds pair with a baby boo and faux bittersweet vine atop a wooden pedestal cake holder.

I know I said I wasn’t going to include pumpkins in my fall decor but who can resist these cuties?

  1. Homey but polished. I’m with Laura, LOVE the lampshade. Local or available somewhere? Just hoping that you keep the sitting light and airy. I’m waiting for you to move out of the somber mode/mood. Maybe you’re in a subtle boho stage, huh? 🙂

    1. Hi Deb!

The lampshade came with the lamp, which I found at Hobby Lobby a couple years ago. I don’t know if they still carry it. Yes, I’m keeping the sitting room on the light side – getting rid of the black mantel. I like it in other people’s homes but for some reason it just doesn’t vibe with me in my own home. I’m going to imitate what my daughter did in her house – she used Ashen Tan by Benjamin Moore on the trim with light, off-white walls. I’ll use the same color or similar on my trim and mantel. My walls are already off-white but I might choose a lighter white for the walls to create a bit more contrast.

  2. I love your fall decor, the baby boos and the gourds are so pretty and your plants all look amazing. I am trying to grow more indoor plants, so I fell in love with yours. I absolutely adore your wonderful cow painting. It is my favorite. Thanks so much for joining the tours this season. Your home looks amazing.

    1. Thank you, Marty! You’ve been in my prayers these days! I’m glad you were able to participate in your own tour and hopefully found comfort in it. I love my plants – especially in winter. They put a smile on my face when the days are cold and dreary and I can’t garden outside. So glad to be included in your tour this year!

  3. I love your herd of cows!!! I say add more! 🙂 I just adore all your dried gourds and touches of fall and that amber glass is just lovely … and I absolutely need a candle in a wooden bowl!!!

Thanks so much for touring with us this fall, my friend!

    🙂 Linda

  4. Jennifer, thank you for your wonderful fall home tour. I love all of your natural elements, and I especially love your mantel. Fall without pumpkins — no such thing.

  5. Love it all!!! But I have to admit, I thought you had left something dead on your table. I’m sure I’d probably love it in person.

    1. Hi Susan,

Thank you – and that’s funny about something dead on my table. LOL. Because, it actually IS dead. My husband hates it, but it’s an authentic tumbleweed from the southwest and I like its organic appeal. I just don’t like touching it because it’s very prickly. 🙂

  6. Get the coffee hot, I’m coming over! Your fall home (your home always) feels so comfy and warm. It’s all lovely.
I’m looking for some art with vintage gold frames (look vintage ok too) so any tips on where to find one similar to your lamb/sheep piece of art in your dining area? The cow? I have a goat one with the black background but can’t find more in the same paint colors. The black background is the best. I’d like one to pair with my goat but no luck yet.
Glad your feeling more into the spirit. Our weather has been cool these last few days which I love. I just don’t like the fall spiders that arrive trying to come to dinner..eeek!!

    1. Hi Lori!

My daughter found the lamb painting with the antique-looking gold frame at a thrift store. I always keep my eye open for them when shopping but haven’t had much luck finding them in stores. If you search “gold vintage frames” on Etsy, you’ll find several, however some are pretty pricey. I agree with you about the dark background – I’m loving that look in artwork right now.

  7. You have done a great job of bringing Fall into your home, it looks so pretty and cozy, thanks for all the inspiration and hard work.

  8. I love how your home is ready for fall. It looks so cozy and inviting. You can never have too many pumpkins this time of year!☺

  9. Love the dried gourd collection and you made me smile by not remembering you had such a vast collection. I’ve been there too. 🙂 Beautiful home tour!

  10. Everything looks lovely Jen! I love amber glass at this time of year and it goes so perfectly with your other decor. Love your pumpkin painting too. Hope you have a wonderful fall season!

  11. All so pretty. I love that painting with the herd of cows. My husband does not understand my appreciation of cow art…I just have two prints that I adore. All the colors and warmth you have added are wonderful. Oh, and I really like the tumbleweed too. It would not look out of place here in Colorado. Natural elements are the best!
