Modern Country Home Tour: Spring 2019

Welcome to my modern country home tour – spring edition! I don’t know what happened this winter but I was on a bit of a decorating binge and made a few impactful changes – like changes in wall color.

Earth Tones and Organic Appeal in a Modern Country Home Tour - Spring Edition

My home tour is just one of many today. Krista at The Happy Housie organized today’s Seasonal Simplicity spring tour. You might be coming over from my friend Amanda’s lovely home at Sincerely Marie Designs – welcome!

I don’t know how it escaped my paint brush but the sitting room is one place that didn’t change color, except my vintage mantel which I shared last week.

The only spring decorating I did this year is the addition of spring flowers and a few new plants. No eggs. No bunnies. I decided to keep things simpler this season. And look how pretty a pink Gerbera daisy is, all on its own.

We use this room far more often than we used to. It makes such a cozy room for intimate conversations and is right off the kitchen which makes it convenient for grabbing coffee, wine, or snacks.

The next room on my spring modern country home tour is the family room and I’m excited to show you my new sectional! I chose a timeless, traditional style. A few others caught my eye but I chose something that wouldn’t go out of style any time soon.

Family Room Painted in Farrow & Ball Mole's Breath

After we painted the family room in Mole’s Breath by Farrow & Ball, I knew the white sectional had to go. A couple of orchids join a pot of purple tulips on the coffee table.

The new sectional gets a thumbs up from me. It’s a tweed type fabric and is super comfy. And the best part – no more slipcovers!

Modern Country Family Room in Dark Gray

The last room on today’s modern country home tour is my bedroom which is small but cozy.

After painting the family and dining rooms, I decided to paint this bedroom. Hubby had just painted it White Dove, but I wanted something warmer with an earthy look.

The short wall behind the bed wears Mole’s Breath since I had a bit left over. The rest of the walls are painted Purbeck Stone, also by Farrow & Ball. Then I found a new bedspread to match.

I’m anxious for the philodendrons above the bed to start growing and draping down. It’s gonna look so cool!

A pot of pink begonias add a little spring perk to the room.

On the other side of the bedroom is a new gray dresser that replaced my two white dressers.

A Philodendron Micans fills my favorite little sheep planter.

Once painted white, the secretary in the corner is now painted Weimaraner by Benjamin Moore. I had a sample pot of this paint color when I was testing colors for the family room wall. It didn’t make the cut so I used it to paint furniture.

More Gerbera daisies fill an old cigar box to add a little spring cheer.

  1. I love the new changes you have made! Too bad you live so far away☺️ I am headed to the nursery to purchase some pink flowers…beautiful.

  2. Beautiful, Jennifer! I love your big statement art pieces – and the florals are the perfect addition for spring. Glad you could be part of this tour series!

  3. Jennifer everything looks wonderful. I never get over how the cow pasture scene is like a camillian. Whatever you put next to this piece the colors change. What a super piece.

  4. I love all the changes Jennifer. I did something extremely similar last February and went with a tweed sofa, new simpler wool rug and warmer colors on the walls (creamy mushroom) in my living room and kitchen. I love the darker door colors you went with and the house overall feels so homey and cozy! Thanks for sharing!

  5. i like your new sofa, I am going to be in the market for one before long. Could you please tell me the brand? I have shopped
around some and most are uncomfortable. I do not like deep seats where I cannot touch the floor, nor cushions that feel like your sinking into never land.

  6. I love all the changes you’ve made, looks different and new. Those colors are really pretty and so is your new sectional, it looks really nice and comfy. All your plants and flowers are wonderful. Thanks for this tour.

  7. wow! Just wow. You have done such an inspiring change to your home. As much as I detest moles, and why would anyone choose to name that color after one is beyond me, the color really changes the mood of your family room. It looks very inviting and relaxing. Spectacular job!

    1. Thanks so much, Nancy! Farrow & Ball has strange names for their paint colors. A couple more of their paint colors I liked are Mouse’s Back and Elephant’s Breath. I always thought it’d be fun to name paint colors!

  8. Love the new sectional and all the colors you have chosen!! Your style has certainly changed over the years…….but always beautiful!!

  9. Jennnifer your home is always beautiful. I am also in the market for a sectional. Might I ask what the name of the one you got is and where you purchased it from?

  10. Hey, Jen! Moles Breath… What a great name for a paint colour! <3 I love the greys, dark khaki and browns you've chosen ~ earthy, warm and inviting! The new walls in our house are a deeper tan and although a bit dark in the evenings for our tired eyes, we love this color in the daylight!

Happy spring to you and happy decorating,
    Love the painted secretary!!!
